Just Received My Frame And Have A Couple Of Questions.

First off I got a little piece of metal with the letter "L" engraved in it.

At first I didn't know what it was, I searched on Tarty bikes and it appears to be a derailleur hanger. What is it for?

Also there was a piece of plastic holding some tension on the very back of the frame, I took it off and now I'm wondering if it served a purpose

Thanks.

Hi, Is it a 26" frame, i should think it is with a derailleur hanger. This is the piece of metal that you put the rear gear changer on, your mech. Im not sure what the plastic bit was, it sounds like the piece of plastic that is placed between the frame dropouts to stop them being crused i the post.

Yep, the metal thing is a derailleur hanger, it will slot in at the drive side (right hand side when riding) dropout. EDIT: it is for hanging a mech on, or a tensioner, you don't have to use it, it depends on your set-up. they are usually made of a softer material so they will bend before your frame does if you hit the mech.

The plastic thing between the dropouts is, as said to reduce the chance of the frame getting deformed when shipping.

Sorry, but isn't that pretty self explanatory? Hanger for a derailleur perhaps? A quick google shows that a derailleur is in fact a rear gear changer, so the hanger is for fitting chainguides as has previously been pointed out.

If like jake said the black plastic was between the dropouts, i think it'd be safe to assume that its not meant to stay there... unless you fancy trying to fit the rear wheel somewehre else.
