Gavyn.
pretty sure it's nothing to really worry about.
Krisboats
Its probably no help now as your probably asleep but all its done is set the page file slightly larger. The page file is a small space on your hard drive thats reserved for storing things you've told the computer to do when theres no more space on your RAM. If you were doing something intensive at the time or a random program hadn't closed properly it could have filled your RAM and paging file while windows decided it needed more room.Either way, its nothing to really worry about as the information on your RAM (if it was caused by a locked program) is lost when the computer switches off due to having no power in the RAM chips. When you turn the computer off and back on your left with fresh clean RAM.If its any consolation i usually increase my page file size in xp anyway, though now i've got vista it seems to be speeding along without such a need. Good old 64bit.

Good old 64bit.Oooohh Kris has made the jump! 64 bit, it's the only way to go.I have XP SP3 on my spare comp. Yeh that's right, SP3! It's a leaked copy apparently. Anyway, there is no difference at all to SP2 I can see, apart from it is noticably faster. When SP3's official release comes about, it'll be running on this one aswell. Don't want to risk it though, a leaked, pre-beta copy could have so much shite on it.Am I right in thinking that more RAM would help to solve Danny's problem? I need more, when you watch the little graphs in mine, if I have 2 programs or more open, the RAM is flatlining. 512mb ***!
UrbanPoet
A release candidate of SP3 is already publically available, and I doubt your "leaked" copy is "pre-beta". As for the RAM, more will help Kearns' situation, so will a good OS cleanup/format!
Wet Banana
Means you should turn it off more often.Restart it and you'll be alright.
spode@thinkbikes
A fixed size Swap File will perform better than a dynamically expanding one too. I would: - turn the swap file OFF. - restart into safe mode. - defrag the computer. - boot up normally, turn swap file back on to a fixed amount. Probably 1GB.Or, if you're not fussed - that error is nothing to worry about, and you can just carry on as normal. But yeah, it's a sign that you could probably do with a little more RAM, or that something you've got running is chewing it all up!
JT!
That's what happens when you talk to JonMack on msn.

Its noticeably faster than the 32bit version i tried a while back, when i say noticeably, i mean that it doesn't seem to hang like the old one did and swapping numerous amounts of files from one place to another isn't a problem now either. The speed for opening photo album folders and stuff seems quicker too. I also like how much more intuitive it is with regards to installing new devices. It picked my camera, webcam and mobile phone up straight away and had them setup with the right drivers within a matter of seconds. It was more of a hit and miss case with XP especially with it finding my camera, it'd often tell me there was a problem with the device and it may not be working properly. Not had any incompatability issues yet with games and things eaither so thats nice, games seem about the same speed too, though i dropped 2-3fps in crysis with vista. I think when i get my new hard drive i'll make the change permanent instead of a dualboot with xp.More RAM is always good, especially now you can pick up 2gb of ddr2 for less than £30. I bought some, got gold heatsinks and everything... looks great and performs really well too. My vista index score is 5.2, and thats because my hard drive is shit Everything else is 5.7-5.9 so my computer is right up there The £30 ram got full vista marks at 5.9 too so it'd be worth picking up if you can fit ddr2. You should consider getting some more but still you really shouldn't be seeing that message with only that number of programs open. Is your hard disk full? Krisboats
Ner ner mines 5.7Bet you paid for your vista too didn't you... same here... maybe.... My next lowest is 5.7, thats the processor. Damn e2180 being slow, i expected more than that speed out of it for £45 Can't complain too much i guess though, i am a poor student and it beats a non-OC'd e6850 in every test i've tried Edited January 4, 2008 by Krisboats
