Tomm
Yep you can use your own freeview box if you'd rather. Surely you could have worked that out by trying it though There's no such thing as a USB--> SCART leaed but you can get some clever things that will play media on TVs - like this. Or you can get an xbox 360 and use it as a media centre extender, and play stuff over your network. Or mod an original xbox and have it run XBMC (xBox media centre) which will also play things off the network.
Caleb
haha yeah could of tried myself but im still quite paranoid about it really pfttt, tried it either way and didnt work apparently it has a child lock on at the moment but when i get the remote it has the function to turn it off and voila, seems a bit weird though .. . Joe Aston
its just the case though you still have to buy the hdd "Multimedia HD Player 3.5 Inch Enclosure• Install an IDE hard drive, load your movies, music and pictures then stream them to your TV or monitor "thats from the site.Joe
Tomm
Yeah but hard drives are dirt cheap. You can get a 250Gb hard drive for under £40.

Sounds a bit weird really, having a tv with no speakers. Its not just like an ex-display model thats been setup to use surround sound or anything? Caleb
im not too sure really, but yeah no sound, on pictures of the tv on the internet they have a lower clip on speaker but i cant seem to source one anywhere, ive also tried just a pc speaker in one of the ports and got no sound but i think it was the wrong fitting as i couldnt slot it fully in.also on the internet it says it has a card reader built in but im sure mine doesnt . . . Tomm
I don't know why it would have a card reader. The 3.5mm jack on the back you tried was probably the audio input, so that's no use.According to micro-direct, it's got various audio out option - via component (red/white phono cables) or optical - I.e. into a separate amp; or 'speaker output' which I would imagine just means those terminals you jam some wires into - like you get on mini CD players etc. What does it look like it has? They may have sent a similar one by mistake.
MadManMike
There are a fair amount of commercial "Panels" that have no speakers. The commercial ones are designed for shop windows and things rather than Domestic use.I used to sell them. The advantage of Commercial ones is that they are generally much cheaper as they are "no-frills" screens. The downside is often resolution is lower, connection options are less and no speakers Great with surround sound kits though.
Caleb
just to clear up ive made two threads and thought id made one, i got the tv very cheap off ebay as pictured basically. it was described as previously being used but the old controller was broke when the previous owners were moving house etc . . .either way ive looked at the back and they have various speaker "slots" they have two slots like the type you see on record players where i think you clamp bare cable in, they have a set of 5 component outputs/inputs, they have a left and right port on the side Red yellow white etc then headphone leads.then an additional left and right in the other cornerive put two of my small speakers into the left and right slots i mentioned last and there is sound but very quiet quiet and distorted even on full volume, ive messed around with the audio settings to no avail either.any ideas?maybe the speakers are underpowered because they connect into the sub on my pc set up but im sure ive plugged an individual speaker into an ipod or something similar before and its worked fine or would it need a power source? Tomm
It depends on the TV's output, whether they're pre-amp outs or they're amplified. I'm surprised they're not amplified if they just connect to a speaker bar that fits along the bottom - I'd imagine the speaker bar doesn't have its own power. In which case you're either using the wrong terminals or the speakers aren't compatible. Try some other ones?
Caleb
i eventually tried the bare wire into the back method and the right one will workk but the left doesnt seem to be picking up no matter which speaker i useit is digitalbut i couldnt egt my head round the dogota; channel set up so reverted back to my old freeview which is nice and easy.think i might just have to live with it as it is as im nto sure a normal surrond sound will work. MadManMike
Does it have a red & white phono Output? If so, any Surround Sound / Stereo system would work with it.And for films you'd plug the scart from Surround Sound to TV and you've get Surround Sound...Ok, explained that badly:If you have a red / white phono output you'd get stereo sound from a surround sound kit whilst watching normal TV, turn on the DVD player and you'd get surround sound from films
Tomm
According to the website there's 4-5 audio outputs. If the left speaker isn't working, you may have been sold a dud on eBay. It may well work if you buy a separate surround sound amp and speakers though.
