Loosing Interest Sort Of..

I'm just going to launch straight into this!

If you ask anyone who knows me they would I'm sure agree that I am pretty ridiculous when it comes to bikes as my interests discipline wise are always changing, over the years I have owned WAY to many bikes and spent WAY to much money on them! Iv had like 4 bmxs, 5 trials bikes, and 3 24" jump bikes. Which I agree is completely ridiculous. Right now I have in my shed my czar mod, a seriously pimp DMR transition, an onza zoot frame, and a mutiny sinister frame :/

The problem I'm having now is I am well and truly fed up with switching bikes all the time, The problem is though when I ride one discipline I always miss other aspects of the other disaplins.... For example when I'm riding trials after a while I miss the speed and flow and spininess you get from street/park/trails riding on my dmr or a BMX and in the same way I always miss the chuckability and ease of riding a BMX when on a 24" bike however I find it really hard to get used to the twitchyness of a BMX. Also by switching all the time it means my rate of progression is slow...

Now my current problem is, I am selling my dmr as it does not get ridden at all really and its a waste! But every day more and more I'm looking at my mutiny BMX frame and considering going into work and ordering myself a nice freecoaster and forks etc. I always think to myself that I will ride trials as well but it never works and one discipline always dominates. The thing is I don't want to leave trials at all (despite how pissed off I'm getting with riding everywhere in 18:12 gearing) I really enjoy it and when I do progress I progress faster at trials than the other disciplines. I'm not sure if my lack of interest currently is to do with the weather or what but as I see it my options are:

1. Sell my zoot frame, mutiny frame and DMR frame and stick with my czar and just try and ride my way through this patch of interest and hope I enjoy it all again once summer rolls back around.

2. Sell my DMR, mutiny and czar and use that money to build my zoot up (and hopefully have some spare to buy a mk 2 24uk or inspired frame or something) and try and sort of mix it up abit on that and try the Bmxy spiny stuff that I miss so much on my mod and just ride it at skate parks aswell as on the streets and stuff (I like this idea allot) And hope a new shiny bike inspires me to go ride.

3. sell my DMR build up my BMX with the money and ride (hopefully) abit of both.. :/

To be honest option 2 appeals the most but I'm unsure about selling my mod as if i don't like 24 then I'm fairly screwed, but really I need to sell it as I need the money as I'm starting to need the money from work etc. for other things (cars, TV for my room, clothes, nights out etc.) so yea....

Anyone been in a similar situation? Or just generally have any advice? ;) and no slating for all you gays that know me :D

xx

I ride a DMR and a mod, i also have a bmx that dosen't get used much, but i get fed up of just riding trials aswell, so then i go out on my dmr and ride that for a bit, then back to trials when i get bored of my dmr lol, if i get fed up of both i go out on my bmx . . . so if i was you i wouldn't sell your DMR, just try to get out on it a bit more. If you want a bmx, save up some money and build one.

i hear you

i wanted to do it all, but its slow to get good at anything quickly that way.

im 100% fed up with (streety) trials! there is no money in the sport! minimal media coverage, and lets face it it's hardly a scene to brag about!

the problem for me came when parts and components brake and ware out! i cant afford to keep replacing shit all the time! and the offers of sponsorship ive had are a joke!!

i was considering selling my 24" leeson, but the money id get for it wouldnt be worth it! so im gonna hang onto it incase i have a bit of a trials lapse.

im just riding bmx now, for the indefinite future. BMX is where its at! ....build a bmx up, and leve it at that! their tough as hell and take an absolute beating!

get a decent 24"trials bike, can be used for all disiplins basically, but obviously more trials orientated, which is what i want you to stick with :P

Yea thats where im looking at the moment, I want to stick with trials aswell :)

there's nothing wrong with having lots of bikes....just make sure you use them!

get out riding now!!

I know that isnt the issue.... money... I dont have much of at the mo.

I know the last sentence was aimed at me but... Your a fanny.

The reason your not enjoying riding the Czar is because the weather is mentally shit at the mo. Riding in the shitty cold, dark and damp is not much fun. In the summer riding is brilliant, much better than any bmx crap. You've improved loads on your bike the last month even, dont even think about getting rid of the czar. If you don't really use your tranzzzgender, sell it, buy a cheap but not embarrassing run around, and SAVE the money dont just think 'shit shit i have some spare money... what can i buy...'

If you get rid of the czar, get an inspired (this is probably the best option) you'll love it.

If i was you (slightly bias here but...) i'd sell the DMR, and that bmx frame, see how much you've got. If the inspired is 'in reach' then save what ever else you need. If you haven't got enough dosh, start flogging the czar, but dont fanny about because you'll just get pissed off with waiting and go mental.

get out on trials bike and get yourself to a new spot somewhere you havnt rode before it might help you get back into it rather than riding the same old places. Also try changing your style and doing new moves you wouldnt normally try. Like bunnyhops if your dont do them or try linking moves together ect.

You ever thought of riding motocycle trials, ive riden it all my life and not got bored yet, used to ride bike trials and ride my DJ bike but got mega bored of them, sold them both and got a new mototrials bike, not looked back yet even though i miss most of the people i used to ride with etc and the good summer rides Thanks Tom

It means that you ride for the fashion statement, to be part of the riding scene. unfortunately there is nothing any of us can do about that. you have to find something that you can stick to long enough to make and develop as your own in the same way one develops their own style to their dedicated discipline weather its bmx, trials, parkour,break-dancing.

I've only ever really rode bmx and trials, i can easily say i've had/ got more bikes than you. So like you say it's the weather, it's clear that you like bikes, and not being able to ride all your steeds is crap and just makes you want to build something else.

In the end you should keep what you got, store away what isn't worth selling (as you can't get near enough what you paid for it and have hardly used it.) And just save your money.

That's what i do. I'm really trying to avoid buying anything anymore, i just purchased cranks, hubs and forks for my Triton which cracked. So i give up.

It also sounds like you can't help with buying stuff. Get a savings account.

Good luck.

...100% not true!

riding on your own is boaring as shit! what i ment by scene was to have a constantly progressing group of riders/friends to ride with!

i dont think trials has progressed at all in the last few years. - The bikes have changed alot, but lets face it, the riding hasnt!

to me at the moment BMX is a far more inspirational and accessible scene.

...guess it depends where you live though.

to be honist mate i think by the sound of things you need to set up a streety type trials bike (24 inspired would do you) and you can do all the trials and streety type moves.

but basicaly you cant do everything, the cost of maintaining a trials bike is enough.

also its better to be awesome at one thing than ok at everything.

and lastly just get out and enjoy it.
