rudirudirudirudirudi
ok, so i bought an a3. everything seems to be going wrong in switching all my parts onto it..... now i think iv threaded the bb. i attempted to put in the driveside first, put it a bit in, and thought that it was way too stiff and mustnt be right. took it off. put it on again. went into the same line started becoming ridiculously hard to screw in when i was about half way. so i stopped. turned the bike round, and the axle sticking out the non driveside wasnt centered!!! every time i try putting it in it follows that path. have i cross threaded it, is there anything i can do about it?? soooo pissed off. rudi
Al_Fel
its a gutting feeling when you do something daft like that which could have been avoided. I think the only thing you can do it take the frame to a local bike shop/halfords and get them to re tap your bb thread.
Grant Hundley
but the non drive side cup in (straight..)then try putting the driveside cup back in and it will be forced straight?thats what i'd do, cus i do a lot of bodging

basher
sounds like it will be cross threaded if youve gone half way, you could try taking it a bike shop and getting them to run a tap down it but i dont think you will have any joy with it. you will just have to either have a steel insert put in but think thats expensive like 50-90quid or just buy a decent bb and glue it in. liam-pantera
if u buy an echo external bb you can use it on the same principal as a bmx crank set were the crankbolts will keep the bb pressed into the frame .

Grant Hundley
just smack it in and hope for the bestthen we'll know whether its a good idea to try it if we ever f**k up a bb thread
Ladd
Have you greased all the threads ,and was it tight going in all the way you got it in ?
Tomm
I reckon running a tap through it is the best plan. Unless you've forced it there will be a lot material there. The other option is that there is some swarf or similar in the threads - give them a good cleaning and then grease.I've had frames that have done this. I changed the BB on my (pretty cheap) road bike, and it went in half way. I just forced it in the rest of the way (It didn't actually go all the way... But close enough ). It seems fine after a couple of months, but I probably wouldn't do it with an expensive and new trials frame.
Bionic Balls
sure you're not doing the classic...wrong side with the bike upside down thing?when the bike is upside down..left become right...tap it anyway

craigjames
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhshould always get threads on frames chased through at a shop, even on new framesyou'd be surprise how bad most threads and faces of tubes are on bike frames. i chased all the threads and faced all the tubes on my intense, its was scary how bad some of them were and this is on a 1900 quid frame.then you thread the non drive cup in a few turns to act as a guide for the drive side, its the best way.now you think youve bodged it, dont try and force anythign in there! you'll only make it worse, thats a last resorttake it to a shop, any self respecting bike shop will have a bb shell tap, and get it re-tapped. hopefully the threads arent too mashed and there will be enough material for the new threads to hold. N Roach
Rudi,Take the frame down to the "Bicycle World" in Ringwood. They are great in there, and will sort this out for you. By the sounds of it, It could be fixed. just dont touch it and take it to the shop tomorrow.Nathan
Will Arnold
very gutting but...please learn from this and do it properly next time! so many threads on this kind of problem!1. left cup in, half way.2. right side with bb axle in all the way, tighten.3. left cup in all the way, tighten.and note : if you feel any resistance at all, stop tightening! just wind it back out. the cup should feel silky smooth going in if you've done it right (providing theres no threadlock on the threads ovcourse )
