Dan6061
Not got a problem or anything, just curious. My friend's after a spring for his cassette hub (not a Profile, but has very similar internals) we both agree that £5 for a tiny piece of metal is a joke.Anyone know where you could buy them from say, a manufacturer? Surely they'll be about £1 for loads?Guessing they're 'flat springs' but can't find any that match Profile ones off Google...Help, anyone? Token
Aren't they like a 'leaf spring'? You get lots of results on Google for that.
trial-biker-ryan
Cheep Skate Just Get profile one.. Using un-branded ones could cause loss of warrenty>?Am i righ tin thinking that...£5 Is a Complete piss take though
Dan6061
LEAF SPRING! that's the one! haha.Me and my mate came up with an awesome bodge to make them louder.. Basically, cut up some thin strips of coke can and make a /\ shape, and wedge it between the spring and driver shell.Like this:Black - Driver shell.Red - Spring.Blue - Pawl.Green - Can. PaRtZ
yeah they sort of resemble hook shapes, theyre about 4mm wide and 10mm long. and about 0.001mm thick£5 is a rip off Not being funny but google spring manufacturers and see if you can get results. Then tell them you're experimenting with them and ask for some samples of different stiffness (if they have them) because more than likely they wont sell them singly
Dan6061
Only leaf springs I can find are for cars/vans. Can't see any that look remotely like these hub springs...I don't actually need any now, but I might soon. Would save us all money anyway! There's also the problem of the thin strip getting wedged underneath the pawl which'll cause either the pawl or your ratchet to wear down because the pawl doesn't have the free movement like it does without the coke can. Dan6061
I did think about that.Obviously the drawing's not acurate...at all.The can bit is in this shape really: _/\_ so the edges are pushed against the gap it's in, so it can't squish down. It's not putting enough force on the pawl so it doesn't spring back easily. It still moves freely. Trying to find some roller beaings in the driver bearing size (as they'll be way stronger), do they even exist in this size?:Bore 15mmOuter Diameter 24mmWidth 5mm Tried SKF, and a million and two websites off Google, but no luck so far... JonMack
Dunno if it's any good, but check out http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/CTGY/15mmThey don't have any roller bearings but they have ceramics and all sorts of shit. Even fully ceramic bearings, pricey!
