jandamna
Right, so yesterday i was out biking at county hall...I had my camera with me at the time, and i just left it in its case, with a mini-tripod by the pile of bags near to where "everyone" were talking. So slowly everyone went home, as you do, and then it was just my camera left on the floor. So i carried on biking, and completly forgot about it, while i went to farmfoods to get a drink. We get back, and realise my camera is gone. Right, heres the bit i need advice on.There are 2 possibilities, 1. The county hall security gaurd, saw my camera and took it inside for safe keeping2. Some dirty gypo chav stole my cameraSo yeah, i know its pretty likely to be number 2, but how do i go about explaining to my mum, that the £200 camera she bought me last christmas has been stolen?Should i just tell her tomorow, after checking with the security gaurds at county hall? Or should i wait till she finds out? Which will probably be christmas day, when she asks me to take photos of the presents, and the tree?Yeah...discuss please? /Jan Edited December 24, 2007 by jandamna

JoeM
If worst comes to worst and it has been stolen have you got any insurance on it? But as has been said before check with the security guards and the police. When I thought I had my phone stolen in a skate park it was actually that it had been left outside my bag and that a randomer took it to the police station to ensure it wasn't stolen. You'd be surprised the amount of nice people in the world..
JonMack
Ditch your bag round your mates house and tell her you got mugged. Or look after your stuff better and admit to her what happened.

jandamna
Do you have insurance?I dont think so, but my mum might have put insurance on it when she gave it to me as a gift
Dan_Trials
Your Home Contents insurance should cover it. Even though it wasn't in the house at the time and even if it isn't named on the policy. My old boss claimed a dive computer on his, said he dropped it over the side of the boat. JT!
First thing you need to do is ask the nearest police station, it's probably there sat waiting for you.And then tell your mum whatever the outcome. Why lie? Shit happens, i bet your mum's done the same thing sometime in her life.

Tomm
I don't know your Mum, but I wouldn't be in trouble for losing something. Certainly not enough trouble to want to lie to avoid it. Just tell the truth, it'll be fine.
Revolver
tell t' truth... you could leave the bit out about leaving it alone, for e.g, you could change that to, "i put it down and turned my back on it for a minute..."but tell her someone nicked it

Just tell the truth, it'll be fine.I dunno, I could see why he would be because he wasn't being responsible enough to keep it somewhere safe, especially it being a present out of his mum's pocket. Essentially if it's stolen he just made his mum lose £200 for nothing... thats the reason I'd see.To be honest, I'd go out riding tonight and then phone your mum up proper quick, say mum someone just nicked the camera - i think. You may well need to report it to the police station though but that'd be worth doing anyway.Probs not worth claiming on your house insurance, next year's premium goes up shit loads for any claims. How much a bellend does that make you look? There are soooo many possibilities to make you look like a twat for lying. just tell the truth. nc7r
Say for instance you do what soft lad up here saysFirstly, what the f**k are you on about?Secondly, it goes without saying phone up the police and the security guy to check it hasn't been handed in, hence saving a lot of ball ache. I dunno what the hell you think you're on about personal flaming.

Sorry I called you "soft lad" (I know how harsh that expression is) but what you were telling him to do was in my opinion stupid.Be a man and own up to what you've done and face the conciquences. TomR
Err, well it got stolen so why not tell her it got stolen? Or is that a really dumb idea You obviously put it down so you didnt fall off and smash it to pieces, and it unfortunately got nicked. Tell her what happened, and just forget about the bit where you wandered off and left it in plain view to get nicked, and learn from your stupid mistake. Bagsnatching stories always sound pathetic, so tell her straight, its not exactly the crime of the century.Edit: and the fact that you need to consult the internet for basic morals is pretty lame. God help you in the real world. Edited December 24, 2007 by TomR
