Mike Winton.
as long as your wheel in central and your chain is tight it doesn`t really matter
chris slater
as long as your wheel in central and your chain is tight it doesn`t really matter looks like i got it right then Thought there might have been some tech way that everyone else does it lol..Thanks alot
JonMack
I put them so that to tension the chain I push them down, that way I can stamp on them to get them that little bit tighter.
psycholist
The chain shouldn't need to be that tight - it'll feel pretty horrible while you're pedalling (Or rolling as well if you've a front freewheel). It should be just short of taut. It's usually a good plan to have the cams in matching positions on both sides of the frame. This should mean that the back axle is straight in the frame so the rim will run straight in the frame (It may need redishing or your frame alignment may be off if the wheel is obviously out of line with both cams adjusted to the same position). The chain line will also be straight, leading to quieter running, less chain wear and less chance of the chain hopping under load.
JonMack
I dunno if that was aimed at me but I'm well aware of the problems with running an extremely high tensioned chain. Thanks anyway.
JT!
If i turn my cams by hand, i can never get the chain anywhere near as tight as i like it.Mole grips clamaped onto the end help get the rest of the way though.
JonMack
Same here, but I still prefer the stomp
esfrost
I have been using my chain really tight for more than two years now, and i have never had any kind of probelem with it. It gives me a really instant feel...
Zordon
I've been using my current chain for 6 months now on my GU '06 20' frame with echo snail cams. They are pretty small compared to other cams and now the chain is so stretched that I cannot tighten it by cams anymore. I guess it's the right time to replace the chain then. JonMack
I assume it's not loose enough to be able to take a link out? But replacing the chain sounds like a good idea anyway
