Snail Cams

The chain shouldn't need to be that tight - it'll feel pretty horrible while you're pedalling (Or rolling as well if you've a front freewheel). It should be just short of taut. It's usually a good plan to have the cams in matching positions on both sides of the frame. This should mean that the back axle is straight in the frame so the rim will run straight in the frame (It may need redishing or your frame alignment may be off if the wheel is obviously out of line with both cams adjusted to the same position). The chain line will also be straight, leading to quieter running, less chain wear and less chance of the chain hopping under load.

I've been using my current chain for 6 months now on my GU '06 20' frame with echo snail cams. They are pretty small compared to other cams and now the chain is so stretched that I cannot tighten it by cams anymore. I guess it's the right time to replace the chain then.
