eskimo
I know there are a few engineers on here so it's worth an ask. Does anyone know the insights about titanium? I'll elaborate more if there is someone with the know-how.Thanks.
AdamR28
I know a bit... what do you need to know?
Muel
It's a b*****d to weld, and reacts like steel, but has the weight characteristics of aluminium, I think. I spoke to my Dad about it, he works with stainless steel so they did look into it a few years back.
Waynio
i know 2 things1) its expensive (for good stuff)2) its very flexy (which isnt too great really)i think people have been there and done that, for some a flexy more "springy" feel is good, but it depends if people want to be nice on their wallet or give it a good bashing............ its probably also someone who wants something no1 else will have.Akrigg has had a couple of ti frames and there nice, light and look super pimp, BUT i wouldnt say its the best material for its properties to use, it breaks same as ally too, everything fatigues etc. sorry if you think im been negative, im just been truthful.Wayne. Mark W
If you've cracked your frame, I'll have to jump in the ROFLcopter and head over there...
matt rushton
Not too sure on this but, it is heavier than aliminuim, but you don't use as much so it's lighter. Something on lines of that.
Waynio
iv seen many a ti frame cracked............... trust me.its actually weird that Ti breaks in places you wouldnt expect it to.Wayne.
Skoze
what do you need to know? dad's an engineer and uses titanium/steel/aluminum etc. every day so im sure he can tell you anything you need to know makes me titanium boat bits aswell which is nice
eskimo
If you've cracked your frame, I'll have to jump in the ROFLcopter and head over there...Seems i'm not going to be able to keep this under wraps thanks to that post.I know a bit... what do you need to know?Ok, so i've cracked my frame under the headtube on the downtube. It isn't to close to the weld. It does span over an inch and the crack managed to jump a little which isn't good i'm thinking. The main thing being it should have had a gusset. Is this still possible? iv seen many a ti frame cracked............... trust me.its actually weird that Ti breaks in places you wouldnt expect it to.Wayne.Yeah, funnily enough it was designed as a peg friendly frame which put some weight on. I snapped a Ti axle in the frame already, which it handled fine. That was the orginal place i looked for the crack. But it's strange like you say, hasn't had any front end impacts yet it went there.what do you need to know? dad's an engineer and uses titanium/steel/aluminum etc. every day so im sure he can tell you anything you need to know makes me titanium boat bits aswell which is nicePost above, thanks. Greetings
That's worrying.... How hard did you ride that bike?Doesn't Gazza give a guarantee for his frames?
eskimo
That's worrying.... How hard did you ride that bike?Doesn't Gazza give a guarantee for his frames? Not any harder/easier than with my other frames. I haven't rode any street on the frame at all, no sets, nothing like that. I've been carefull with it. However i do like to give pegs a good bashing when it comes to chinks. I snapped a Ti axle in that frame but it was designed for pegs so it took it no problem. The weird thing being the first and second ping (cracking noise) happened when doing rock walks. I literally only rode for 1 minute.Yeah it has got a decent gurantee. Only cracked it today, so got to some stuff before we can sort it out. Is this still possible?ey ooo...are you planning on putting a gusset over the crack? maybe if you weld along the crack and gusset over it'll hold, but i don't think anyone will really know how long that would last..its very flexy (which isnt too great really)ti is actually the best material to make springs from don't you know....!adam

From what Gazza said, Ti doesn't weaken after welding so i can't much problem there.I really hope i can get it sorted.
Dang!
If you are going to weld a gusset straight over the welds, be sure to drill out the ends of the cracks to keep them from creeping.Really wouldn't be a bad idea even if you are going to weld the cracks up, then put a gusset over it. Bionic Balls
be sure to drill out the ends of the cracks to keep them from creeping.don't get confused with creep....that ain't the problem here...this is about fatigue
