El Cristoff
Hi, just doing a bit of research. What type of pedal do you prefer and why. Thanks for your time Chris x Edited December 20, 2007 by El Cristoff
Adam-Griffin
Cage's are gay.
Muel
Cage's are camp and bendy and don't have any grip and have shite bearings.Platforms are hard and not bendy and have lots of grip and are available with amazing bearings. monkeyseemonkeydo
I'm down for cages. Only run platforms (Hognesium's) for a couple of months before and in that time they lost a load of pins and were just a bit, well, pants. I also have found V8's almost too grippy- like you can't adjust your foot position at all on them. Cages offer plenty of grip, things don't fall off them and they're cheap as chips so I don't mind replacing them when they get bent or the bearings die. psycholist
I got a set of caged pedals to run for years by drilling a hole in the pedal body to use as a grease port and filling the pedal body with grease. I sealed the hole by using a cut off nail as I didn't have thread tapping gear at the time (I did this before DMR were making grease port pedals at all BTW). Caged pedals tend to sit your feet higher off the pedal axle, allowing the pedal to roll under your feet more easily than with a platform, leading to a lot more shinjuries in marginal situations than with platform pedals. The concave on DMR V8's also keeps my feet nicely centered. A friend of mine who only runs cages does so because he finds DMR pedals too small for his feet. He's gouged his shins a lot more often than I have and rides at about the same level on almost the same bike... Hard to decide which pedal type does more shin damage, but it happens less often with platforms.
*Tom*
Dmr v8s . . . only pedals you'll ever need Don't like cage pedals because the cages can come loose and i don't find them very grippy either.

James Quigley
had my V8's for almost a year now and have only lost about 3 pins.Just ride better and platforms will be perfect.

jsy trials matt
i had a pair of caged peddals, they only lasted 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JSY Matt
weebryan
i have used onza mags£45 and the pins got ripped out so i now run single cages and replace the cage every 6 months which cost £3 and grease the bearings at 6 months using a old cap with a drilled hole and grease gun so its like a new pair of pedals every 6 months for £3 and plus the complete pedals new are £12 so it would take many years to add up to the price of the onza mags which lasted only 8 monthsand also to convert double to single go to b&q and get the alu tubing and cut spacers like the monty ones that cost £45 Edited December 20, 2007 by weebryan
NileBrownâ„¢
Used to run caged pedals but then I had a bit of an accident which led to several stitches and a deep cut... AND now a hefty scar The cages basically took a chunk out of my knee so a few weeks later I changed them for V8s and love them. Platform pedals ***. N.Wood
Cages all the way.I havn't bent mine in a good year or so, bearings are still good and thy're as grippy as i'd ever want them to be.As long as you're not a retard/basher, they're rad. Tommy d
I changed from my Onza cage pedals after they made a few horrific gouges in my shins... I got V8s and they do far less shin damage. They have also proved far more durable.
Rusevelt
The problem with cage pedals (apart from Moto Law X pedals) is that you have to curl your feet in a convex (ie; opposite of concave) shape like most birds of prey to maintain grip and foot postioning, but with larger platform pedals you have more room for optimum foot positioning. Reinold
Prefer platform. My V8's have lasted me a year without greasing or looking after them and they're still going strong, only missing about two pins.
Captain Scarlet
Platform pedals easily.I'm running a set of Raleigh branded, Wellgo pedals with are basically one piece pedals, and the pins are fixed, not replaceable like V8's.They have stupidlly low grip, but I've just got used to it now.I got them because they were cheap, and by the looks of it they are very durable. Alex@Flawless Bikes
Cages suck, worst pedals ever!
abtrials
i was running v8's that were 7 years old, i had only serviced them 2-3 times and they have every pin still attached, they were really good untill i started to ride natuarl more and they just made my feet hurt, so i am now using vp cage pedals and they seam to be really good actualy, and easy to replace the pedals as tehy are so so cheep so my verdict is cage as they just feel nicer on the old foot
Charlie Jennings
Onza Hogneisums. Light as fook.
Dan6061
My cage pedals were never really that good...They didn't have as much grip as I thought they would, my feet slipped about a bit in any shoes. Then the bolts would work themselves loose, then just fall out, and the threads would strip. The cages would fall off or snap, and the bearings were shitty.Had DMR V8s and they're great. Apart from the pins falling out, but they're replaceable. Got some Gusset Slim Jims now, and they're alright...
