Jed
How much you looking to spend?
Billy
The drummer in my band got a DW (top drawer stuff) for £300, from GAK. I think. It's a beautiful drumkit, 24" kick, rack and two floor toms, matching snare, and I THINK he got some hardware with it too. You'd need to buy cymbals too, you can get decent starter sets for about £200, Zildjian or Sabian. I know Tama and Pearl do nice starter kits too, but if you want one that sounds AND looks the dog's bollocks, go for the DW
Jed
No way can you get a DW for £300. For £300 your looking really low end stuff.

MadManMike
Ah wicked, not sure on budget, just getting a rough idea of what you can get for what money etc...I saw a few pearl kits on eBay starting at 99p - a red one in particular caught my eye. Will see what they end at in 3 days
Spikenipple
If you can stretch to it, go for a Pearl Export kit. They're cheap but good quality and versatile. Most dealers chuck in a basic hardware kit too, so that'll save you some dolla.

MadManMike
Well once I have some cash for it, I'd be looking to spend about £300 - let's face it, if I'm no good or don't enjoy it it's a lot to shell out! Thanks for the advice, the Pearl Export kits are what I'm looking at on eBay at the moment. Billy
One word: LudwigOnly if you have infinite budget!!Well, if £300 is your budget, you'll be best looking on ebay for a kit complete with cymbals and hardware. Pearls probably your best bet on that front

TheCircus
I'll vouch for Tama, had my Rockstar kit for nigh on 12 years now, it's only just starting to get pretty sketchy. Just hire a drum tutor and try to get a grasp of basics such as tuning etc and then make a start on rudiments before you start thinking about the kit as a whole. Oh, and buy a metronome, the amount of drummers that don't practise with a metronome is ridiculous.
MadManMike
Thanks for the advice ladies and gents So you reckon learn a bit first and then invest in a kit?
TheCircus
Depends, it's got to be fun. Try going to a couple of lessons first with a drumkit you can play on, and then invest in one if you find it fun. It's not going to seem fun just getting some pad and doing rudiments for 30 mins a day, drums are fun because making loud noise is fun.
