Network Problem

Hay all,

Have a network problem. Have recently purchased the necessary hardware so I can set up a wired network in my house,

reason being for faster internet, unfortunately hasn't quite worked out that way and for reasons un-known to me it

wont work as desired. So I'm going to give you as much info as possible and shall pray that someone can help because

its really quite annoying now!

Right to start off, I'm trying to connect two pc's to a virgin media connection, standard modem. To make it possible

to split the connection I purchased a Planet router (code: fsd-803). It would be set up so the computers should see

it as a default gateway, automatically detecting ip etc. Just a note, the router and modem are next to each other

next to the downstairs computer where the cable line comes in, the modem is connected to the router by a 8 conducter

cable, this is the true also for the pc upstairs. Now this is where the problems start, when we have the upstairs

pc connected the internet wont work downstairs but will upstairs. I've tryed my best to create a network but only on

the downstairs pc and it dosnt seem to work, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and have no idea how to go about it.

Any help would be much appreciated, as Im lost.

Cheers all, and I sorry if some of this dosnt make sense it confuses me!

Willis.
