MadManMike
Ok, under some silly kind of law, because the person that stole my old DMR replaced some parts on it they can legally claim it as theirs and we'd have to go to Civil court to fight over who owns it.Now, I had to sign a form at the Police station basically stating that I wouldn't sell or modify it in the next year, and if I did modify it I had to revert it back to it's original state if the police were to come and seize it.Ok, no problem I thought. Now, almost a month on, I don't like how it is and would like to use all the parts and buy a Base TA26 frame. To do this, I'd need to sell the Trailstar frame. The problem being that if I sell the frame I have technically broken the law and if anyone DID claim it (Very minute chance I know) I would end up in a fair bit of trouble. So, please pick your answer for what you would do in my position. For reference, I want the Mrs to use this bike so want something nice for her to ride and fancy something nicer, the Base in Pink would be perfect! Fishy
Not worth getting in trouble with the police for selling it. You can always make your money back in a few months when it's call cleared.
MadManMike
Yeah, but then who would claim it as theirs? Some scumbags nicked it, replaced the seat and bars and scuffed it up then dumped it.Nobody would claim it as theirs surely? It's a tiny risk, but then the consequences could be bad if it happened I guess - what would the Police do? Make me pay the thief the value of the bike if they won the court case?
Fishy
You got the receipt for it?
Lawnmowerman
You have proof it's yours though. You have pics of you riding it from before the robbery.
MadManMike
You got the receipt for it?To get my new bike I had to send it to Insurers... being a thicko I didn't make a photocopy
Fishy
don't know if the pictures would be suffice though?
MadManMike
You have proof it's yours though. You have pics of you riding it from before the robbery.this is the tough part - I have proof of the bike I WAS riding, not the bike as it is now. Because it has a couple of different bits it COULD be a different bike.Gay eh?
Lawnmowerman
Then the police can speak to the insurance company about the fact that you had to send them the receipt to get the claim.
Fishy
To get my new bike I had to send it to Insurers... being a thicko I didn't make a photocopy Ask them for it back. They should have kept it on file. If they start getting stroppy mention police and court.
MadManMike
Yeah but the receipt proves nothing, just that I had a DMR Trailstar. The different parts on there could prove it's not mine in the eyes of the law...I would think nobody would claim it anyway, especially if the Mrs was riding around on a pink Base rather than the bike they stole...Tough call
Fishy
Did the police tell you specifically not to sell it on or anything?
MadManMike
Did the police tell you specifically not to sell it on or anything?Yeah I had to sign a form and the cop asked if I planned on selling it. When I said no, he said right well sign this please. He explained the form (Like I can't read ) and told me where to sign...
Fishy
Ah, might be an idea not to sell it then for a bit. You could get royally f**ked over.

MadManMike
Part of me is saying "come on, who's actually gonna say it's theirs?" but there's a little part of me saying "yeah, but if they do, you're pretty screwed".It's a really tough call :|
JT!
I'd just sell it, even if someone trys to claim it, you shouldn't get into any trouble becuase it's a stupid stipulation.Sell it, start fresh.
Greetings
Better safe than sorry, keep the frame and save up for a new one.
Tony Harrison
I honestly can't believe I'm reading this. Someone steals your bike and f**ks with it, and now you're being inconvenienced? Why the flying f'ck does the law give any rights to the thief? He stole the goddamn f'cking bike!! This is just ridiculous!

Muel
Why can't you just buy a Base frame and keep the trailstar on one side for a while? You have got your new bike now anway, so I'd say you've come out of it pretty well.I'd buy the new frame but keep any bits needed to build it back up, just in case, then you can't get done. Krisboats
If it was me i'd sell it mate, nobodies going to come out and admit to "doing up" a stolen bike as they'd be booked straight away for theft.
Alex Dark
I agree with muel...seems like the best way to go about it

Hence I'd sell the DMR frame and a couple of other bits.I have a new bike, but that doesn't help in this situation as it's not for me... Jamie_Neal
Surely if you sell it to some one no where near you then whoever stole it can't claim it back as you won't be riding it and it'll be miles away. But is it worth the risk?
