BenLeacock™
Right guys this is my problem. My uncle's just got a new laptop. its a Packard Bell running vista. Ive got all the internet cd's from orange and the passwords so I no its not that. Ive also got another computer running on this wireless network. What is confusing me is that, it says the computer has a wireless card ( or a internet reciever ) built in. So i thought it would be as simple as pressing the Wi-fi button, installing the cd's and bobs your uncle ? But it seems its not. I get so far throught the instalation process, then it says '' please turn on your computers wireless adaptor'' But the light next to wi-fi is on ? Is there something i havent done ? Help would be just lovely x

anzo
First things first...You've just got the ONE wireless reciever on the laptop...two (such as a USB reciever supplied with many network packages) will cause conflictions and make any installation a pain in the arse. Are you using Windows wireless setup or a wizard supplied with the wireless software?Tried scanning your work-area for available connections...you should have an encrypted, password protected (WEP-PSK secured) to prevent randoms stealing your connection. In which case you may have to set the connection up manually using the exact SSID name and password.Try a short drive with the laptop and scan for connections...rule out a faulty reciever.
