Sorry if here are some sucky spelling... translated it from norwegian in 1 minute.... but here we go:

I was at work the other day and was reading a catalouge of all the products we have. And suddenly i saw something interesting!!

Poleurethane plates!!! :D

They cost about £683 for a plate 2m x 1m.

Since i was unshure of the softness of them i wanted just a test object

So i called to the main office in OSLO and asked if they could send a little test of the product.

It was shipped express the office in my town.

Then i got the tools....

The poleurethane plates are 10mm thick, so they are perfect for brakepads.

I told them to make them fit two brakepads in the width of the plate.

Then i had to boil the old brakepads to have some backings to test on.

Christmas-soda while waiting for the water to boil!

Finally boiling!!! then i put the old pads in the water.

When they where "ready" and real hot, i had to remove the backing

Then i had to glue the shit together. (I know this is not suited for the shit, but only thing i got at the moment)

Final result! :)

When i have tested them i will get back with a little review on the pads.

Maybe i will buy some loose backings and make shitloads of pads and sell them real cheap (only if they are goodshit ofcourse!)

:S i hope you have cut them so that they sit into the recess in the backing! otherwise say goodbye to your face!

Adam

no i have not! This is just the first test pair.... If the bite and locking is good, i will make a new pair and fit them properly... Including a safer glue... ;)

so a review on the hold and shit comes tomorrow ;)

Making rough calculations the plate you bought(received) is around 70 pound witch is a lot, but come to think of it you can make like 200 pairs of pads so it is good....of course if you have backings and spare time :)

The idea is nice where did you get the poleurethane from? If it is good stuff redirect me to them (when you test it of course) :)

By the way there is a special glue from Loctite for poleurethane(not sure about the number though). I think that you know that, but just to inform other people who want to try that ;)

Even if it's just a test pair your shouldn't glue them like that, the rubber wont hold on there for two pulls of the lever let alone time to test them.

We use material like that at work on the squeegees for screen printing. we have red, which is dead soft, green which is well hard and a whitey coloured one.

Gonna nick some me thinks, comes in like 5000x300x10mm lengths haha

You do screen printing at work?

Win! But yeah, get some and I'll give you a sweet blowie if you make me some pads.

Please don't use that brake pad for anything more than slowing you down whilst both wheels are on the floor. Spend 5 minutes with a sharp stanley knife (watch those fingers!) just cutting out the basic slot shapes for the backing and pull those two little posts out of the backing to make life easier.

Currently helping boumsong out with cutting and testing of his new pads and theres no way i'd risk using something like that. My current setup is as primitive as this:

I dont do it, but the screen printing department is next to mine, and i used to get paid to fix the machines lol.

If i can get hold of some, might send you some to make some pads.

Awesome.

Let me know.

Out of interest where is everyone else picking up their samples, or are we not allowed to know?
