Pashley26
Is Grinds are so good why don't you get them as standard ?Surely when a manafacturer is producing the Rim they could make a tidy, even and straight job of it ?I havn't got a grind.....Or rear disc mounts....but i am a retard !Jarrod[Edit] Is it just as simple as it gives the brake more grip on the Rim ? Dai the Socket
Is Grinds are so good why don't you get them as standard ?Some bike companies do offer them; Tartybikes are one of them.I think they're not done on all rims merely because some people don't want them, plus they can make the rim wall weaker and not lookas nice if it was bought to use a disk then it would look nicer anodized.Oh and it's a lot more effort for a company to do it, no doubt would need to be hand-done which makes the manufacturing process a lot more expensive. Pashley26
Ahhhaaa, ok so it's mainly Cost/Health and Safety Rubbish !!!But more importantly, does everyone still grind there rim ?I did mine with an angle grinder back in the day ! Is that still common ?Jarrod
Janson
yes!some people try files/sanding machines/dremels/whatever but they're stupid.grinds are not supposed to be neat or exact, just brute force and a good disc does it nicely.also, use any kind of disc. grinding, cutting, etc. doesn't matter much if you can set your brakes up properly. remember, it's not rocket science. Greetings
Currently running a smooth rim on Coustsinks, the brake is just as good in dry weather as it was with a grind. In the rain however the brake doesn't work at all.

Janson
riding the stuff you do with a smooth rim clearly shows there's something missing in your head. also, it's fun to see if it upsets anyone.
Ali C
for comp riding its either a grind or a disk, theres no alternatives.
Muel
I ran tar for a bit. Twas shit. You all need to get discs, it's the only way.
BenLeacock™
Muel you still grind you rims now even though you run double disk, just for the popular ''street'' trend
T.McMillan
grind ***, if manufacturers made it standard would a good idea but the wear away after a while, so might as well let the consumer do it to there preference
lewis.jackson
Smooth is the best so fook the rest.Grinds just make your rim look sh*ty and cheap oh yer and weaken them.
AdamR28
grind *** Anybody tried that? (I know its 'swear filter' for f-t-w, but thats funny)I would say grinds are still pretty popular, and the best way to achieve consistent braking with a rim brake. The choice of brake pads has escalated slightly in the last few years though!

Pashley26
Well thanks guy's, Some split opinions there....I'll stick with smooth, and when i bend my next one i'll have a grind again.I do kinda miss the sound !As for Tar !!!! I had tar on my Giant team bike when i baught it new, and that was the dogs !!! Makes the best sound ever !Tell you mate to have a ride on your bike then watch them FLY over the bars....Cruel but funny !Thanks guy's, Jarrod[Edit] Just realised this has been moved to Trials Chat....]
Ash-Kennard
if you like your teeth in the winter you will grind your rim, not like rims are even expencive anymore, dont pussy about wearing down the sides.
Nick Garland
As ash said, rims are cheap now, I am on my 3rd of the year due to grinding them a lot but it makes my brake work rain or shine.
Greetings
Anybody tried that?Yeah, it makes the pads stick to the rim and yet the braking power isn't that good.
