MadManMike
Ok so we've established I'm no designer - I hope this thread isn't only for pro's / uni trained designers. What I know I've kinda taught myself with pointers from my brother. My latest club flyer for my new event: Anything drastically wrong with it? What I know I've kinda taught myself with pointers from my brother. My latest club flyer for my new event: Anything drastically wrong with it? im also no designer, but scrap using the different font with the text going vertically, keep it to the same font as used in the rest of the flyer. or something a bit similar. dont know if its the colour, or the font, or what, but "The Euphoric Sessions" going up the left, just looks off to me. Jed
Agree with the above post, but also make it white like the rest of the text. Except for that it looks pretty tidy.

Hmm, I started off with it white and the same font, didn't look right :| I know what you mean though, I tried that first... maybe I should make it 50% opacity or something? Fade into background a bit?
Rich J
Capital N for nonstop? Dunno if its meant to be like that. Stood out to me.
MadManMike
Capital N for nonstop? Dunno if its meant to be like that. Stood out to me. Nope, because it's part of the sentence above - it has a , not an . - so using a capital would be bad grammar. Much like my post lol... The Hitcher
I think I would put the "The Euphonic Sessions" in the same style as the "technical science" bit, Look out of place how/where it is at the moment. Could move it somewhere else or get rid of it, Might look bit better??? Think I'd just get rid of that text, personally. Joe Aston
There any decent free programs for doing this kinda stuff? Can someone put up a link of a download or something? http://www.gimp.org/ or you can get a free trial of photo shop off the adobe website. joe
Mark W
You can get a free trial of all the CS3 products off the Adobe website. If you've got aspirations of working 'in industry' or anything like that, you may as well try and get familiar with them now. They're all pretty easy to use too Trials-forum.co.uk does 100% not endorse in any way the downloading of a trial version of any CS3 product and a suitable Keygen which would thus allow you to have access to the full programme. GlynnP
Hey cheers for the positive feedback. Hey max i went to pcad ( plymouth college of art and design ) I am only doing a national diploma at the moment in Digital Graphics and Interactive Media but will be going on to do Interactive Media Production at Bournemouth next year. As far as national diplomas go though this course was a great start to my work as its can set you off in so many different paths and the quality of work is awsome. I went to 4 uni interviews and was really shocked to hear from 3 of them that they felt our course wasthe best they have heard of in the interactive media / design paths and that my portfolio and sketchbooks from the course were the best they have seen in a long time and one guy said it was the best he had ever seen and some work was to his year 2 standards. ( dont know how true that was ) but did give me an unconditional offer.

Sonny Clarke
Dam, i want to get good at editing and design but just don't know where to start. Ive downloaded Gimp but don't know if its worth getting photoshop? Any tips/ideas on how i should go about practising or what i should practise on
GlynnP
Hey max i applied to bath spa - digital design and interactive media bournemouth - interactive media production newport - interactive media buck new uni - cant remeber the course but was basically design design n interactive and animation i think Its defo worth going to the unis before you applie and having a look around because I didnt have time and only went after applieing and at interviews and found that bournemouth was the only one of my choices i really wanted to go to. Sonny Clarke Its well worth while getting photoshop and others from the adobe range like illustrator, dreamweaver and flash if you are into all the different areas. Most are industry standard and the capablitlies are miles higher than gimp in some respects. Edited June 12, 2008 by GlynnP

JonMack
Yeah you would... but you've got the whole rest of this year or so to learn and get one together. It's not just as easy as making things look pretty though, there's a fair bit of technicality behind it.
