Tom_
Right Iv recently set up the wireless on my laptop, thing is every 5minutes or so it looses connection, thing is up until connection goes it says the signal strength is exelent, then it goes and the instant it goes i get a pop up saying that one or more wireless connection is available for use. So i have to click on that and click connect then it reconects and goes back to exelent connection. Its REALLY starting to piss me (and id guess people that have me on msn) off. Any one got any ideas about how to stop it ?cheers xx
Dai the Socket
Do you have to reset your router then let it fire back up, then it starts working again? My Netgear router is like that but I've just bought it so have no idea how to fix it. It's no the computer's problem It's the routers 'cos it's fine with other routers. Now it's giving 'connection error' whenever I try join my network.Stupid thing. poopipe
If it's not what Nick says unplug the router (power cable) from the wall for 5 minutes and plug it back in. If that doesn't sort it try letting windows manage your wireless network .If windows is already managing it, try using the software that came with your wireless card. otherwise I'm a bit stuck so I'll just tell you about my wireless problems instead of helping....I get disconnected when trying to transfer large piles of data (over 100mb at a time) between machines on my wireless network or if I'm using remote desktop for long periods - I'm buggered if i know why so I'm blaming the router's firmware and I'mm going to buy a new one when I get round to it. Tony Harrison
I had a similar problem myself. Wireless is dick. I've had it at three different places, three different routers with three different providers, and every time it's been dick.
Krisboats
If it's not what Nick says unplug the router (power cable) from the wall for 5 minutes and plug it back in. If that doesn't sort it try letting windows manage your wireless network .If windows is already managing it, try using the software that came with your wireless card.If the above doesn't work try changing the channel the wireless signal is based on. By changing the channel your using a different frequency.. and as you have an excellent connection that keeps getting cut off theres a strong chance it could be another device thats interfering with it. Changing the channel should be as easy as logging into the router and changing the channel number and saving the changes. If that doesn't work note whats going on when you lose the signal, have you fired up a piece of software? Did someone switch on the microwave? Did a lorry drive past the house etc. If nothing obvious crops up then try giving the netgear helpline a ring, the number is on the back of the modem and they're usually quite quick with sorting things out and seem pretty capable of reading the generic solutions of the computer screen in front of them as they're on the phone to you.
