What Style Helmet, Is The Style Helmet?

Hello all.

I myself have two helmets for different bikes, that's fair enough right? One's a road bike and the other a mountain bike so I think it makes sense. My question is if I'm going to get another helmet for a trials bike i hope to get and I feel the need to buy another helmet (which I confess is inevitable) what style should I go for?

So "What do you mean by style???" I hear you cry (in my head, that's where it's at after all), well okay some examples: Catlike (clearly out of the question as I already have one), peaked/visor (removable?), conventional all-round (let's be frank) Halford's stylee(check), skateboard. Anymore?

Another important point to consider, how much protection do I need on the back of my head, because I've head that can be a 'danger area' in terms of trials injuries and it seems that something like a skateboarding lid, my initially choice, doesn't give you much protection there.

All comments welcome.

Most people just run an XC helmet.

The majority use whichever Giro fits their budget at the time.

yer ive got a Giro Indicator 2008.

www.chainreactioncycles.com and in the search box type giro indicator 08 if that helps

hope it has

I've got a Met helmet which is very good, i've already put it to the test since i fell straight on my back and the helmet stopped it from becoming very dangerous. The good thing about the XC style helmet is that they are light weight and airy. The skate style helmet (which I have used before) move around your head and make your head hot and uncomfortable. I would recommend mine, i think it cost me £27.99 from a bike shop in Brighton. Just in case you choose a met, mines black with like a red flame on one side, it also has a peak thing on the front.

Yeah thats the same with me, I have an 07 giro indicator - I only bought it as it was the one I liked in my local halfords and I only had 30 quid on me. I don't really care how I look in helmets or what helmets I buy, just as long as they are safe and will stop me from cracking my head open.

Piss pots are good - they're cheap and indestructible. For trials I think they're a bit better than XC lids as they cover they back of your head more, and they're more resistant to knocks etc. It just depends on whether you like the look or not. If you're that bothered, you could always get something like a Gire Semi-MX or whatever they're called. But they're expensive.
