Dai the Socket
Just a quick one. When I hook a 3.5mm jack into a TV, which then splits to Phono, then goes into the back of my Sony Amp and hooks up to some Mission floor standing speakers...It goes all buzzy.I can't get rid of it and I'm curious why. Do I need to do it another way than the 3.5mm jack, for example phono or scart or something?Sorry I'm vague - hope you get what I mean. We're getting Sky next year and want to hook the TV up to my speakers for Music channels and such
tomturd
Try the headphone jack with an mp3 player or something. If its not fuzzy then it must be a problem with the TV. If it is fuzzy then its a problem with the cable or your amp.If its a problem with the TV (I'm guessing your not using the TVs built in tuner) use the audio out from your freeview/sky/virgin box. Either directly from audio outputs on the digi box, or if it doesn't have them, you'll need to do something fancy ish with a scart lead. If your not sure on that let me know
MadManMike
TV's often do that mate, best way I found is to turn the TV up loud on TV remote, then turn the amp on and obviously you don't need to turn the amp up so much if the TV's up.That way you get less buzz.Did I explain that properly? That kind of solves my problem but I was looking for a decent fix. I'm okay with spending a bit of money if I need to get some proper leads. Cheers Tom I'm goin to look in to that, I've never had sky before so I've no idea what kind of connections come off the back of the Sky+ box yet.Surely TV's can give out an audio signal with clarity these days! Dr. Nick Riviera
sky boxes should have phono outputs to bung straight into an amplifier.

wrongsideof40
From the sounds of it, it is a earth return problem and 3.5mm plugs and sockets are quite othen the cause try another 3.5mm jack > phono also is it a stereo tv (3.5mm socket)? . As was said try and use phono to phono from the sky box much better solution.
