Naa. The judgement comes naturally. Its like knowing how hard to throw a ball to get it to a certain point.

Obviously as you get better so does your judging. (Y)

i was thinking about it the other day, the bike just goes where you want obviously your technique has to get better for distance drops etc so you can become more accurate, just comes with practise, and you just do it, good thing to do when your learning is wheel backwheeling/forward hopping aim to hit little marks/stones on the floor

this is very true.

i ride with tom and this is what him and the others told me to do so i tried it and it did work...

as in try going from 1 spot to a drain cover to start off with then put something like a chalk line on the floor and start moving and makin the gap bigger and bigger till you become used to it.

Rails are harder than walls though, because your back wheel has to be much more perfect, otherwise you slip off and gap downwards too easily unless you preload and squidge like hell lol.

but yeah walls are easier and I thought exactly the same thing when I first started and assumed it was luck.

I think it it even easier to judge the distance in trials than in basketball. For me at least. :D I hate ball games except soccer. I have this fear that I would broke my finger against ball. Trial in contrary is one of the most safe sports I now. It RULES!

In case of landing on a rail you must be sure, that you can perform the same distance on a curb. On a curb one can save the move because the sharp and super grippy surface. Rails are slippy because they are polished metal ;) SO that's it.
