Greetings
Why don't you just use water? Rinse the rim, ride around with the brake on, rinse the dirt off the rim, repeat a few times and dry. There's no better way.Spirit doesn't exactly dissolve tar does it? You should use nitro thinner if anything.

There's no better way.word.although i just usually grind my rim!why exactly do you need to clean it? i guess its a smooth rim?if you want to clean your pads, just use sandpaper to get to a fresh layer of material! as for the rim, water! duggyd
Yeah smooth rim, running rock greens, it's pretty good.I just had not cleaned my rim for ages, and was hoping that the white spirit was not going to rape my rubber bits!I like having smooth rims, works better for me, and i dont' use tar anyway. I find solvents get further into the rim than water, so it works for me! cba with the grinding, and regrinding etc etc, just easier this way i reckon.Cheers guys! Captain Scarlet
Petrol, just about good for cleaning crap off nearly anything on a bike.Surely if the petrol hasn't been mixed with oil, then there is no oily residue?I have some petrol from my old Minimoto, thats 50:1, Petrol:two stroke ratio, and brakes still work fine after that. ConnorPowell
Don't some of them also leave an oily residue to stop food and grease sticking to the oven quite so easily in the future? Some do and dont, the one i use doesnt, ita a case of trial and error, just got to find one that doesnt.
