Tomm
Yer thats what i was planning on doing a light wood and a dark wood ? This what you mean ?Yeah. If you want, say, a dark teak for the legs and mahogany on top, it won't quite match, but it will look as though it's supposed to.
nmt_oli
Thats a good point, having a dark top with light legs with small amounts of dark in them to tie them in would work well. Then you could use your origonal wood, cause size is so much less of an issue if your laminating pieces into the legs.
BenLeacock™
My current plan is to have the top of the table in american walnut, dark wood. Then now im going to have the legs made out of a lighter wood, such as oak, with american walnut put in, like the guitar !
GaZaa
Yeah. If you want, say, a dark teak for the legs and mahogany on top, it won't quite match, but it will look as though it's supposed to.I've worked in a Timber Merchants for the past 5 or so years as a Saturday guy and full time when Ive been off of college/uni etc. Teak is a bit of a no go really as it is MEGA expensive, where other hardwoods cost maybe £25 per cubic foot Teak is £180 per cubic foot plus vat! Which soon adds up to cost a fortune. Iroko probably the closest match to Teak at a fraction of the price and maybe not as pretty. My advice would be to go down to a local merchant who knows what theyre talking about. Have a look at what they have in their sheds and take it from there and actually compare the grain and colour of the wood with a sample of the wood you're using to make the table top. That is all
