Earning Money While In The Usa

JT!

you thought anymore of the ebay selling of extreme sports dvds JT, seems fairly foolproof to me, providing you live close to a store selling them.

To the UK? They wouldn't work in european dvd players.

errr... yea they would, most extreme sports dvds are region free. ive got nitro circus 4 here from the u.s works fine on any of 5 dvd playing devices in my house(2 laptops, 1 14" dvd tv combi, and 2 dvd players), its only mainstream(i.e stuff that you buy in hmv thats region protected). my manifesto dvd came from canada, and i think my "the art of trials " dvd was from the us/canada, i remember buying it from a uk seller, but coming with international labels on it. ill have 5 more arriving in the next couple of weeks, im confident they will work, and ill let you know if they dont

im sure you could make a pretty little penny on it too, given that im paying £15ish a dvd shipped from the us, but their selling for £20-£25 posted in this country, and youd be getting them for way under £15(like £9-£10 lookin at most online retailers in the u.s and selling them for say £22 posted, ebays gunna take £1,and postage is gunna be like £2, thats £8-£10 per dvd, you said you wanted to maken £60 minimum a week, thats only 6/7 dvds a week, and obviously if you start selling 5 copies of nitro circus a week, you can approach a wholesaler/ the company that produces them, about buying them in bulk(as the shops obviously making a few dollars on each dvd).

Sounds like a plan, but i don't think i'd sell 5/6 DVD's a week, every week. Also, not all the DVD's would sell so i'd be paying ebay fees over and over again. Then there's paypal fees. Postage to the uk from the states would cost more than £2 i would have thought.

Also, i don't know wether i'd be legally alowed to buy wholesale becuase i'd have to be a registerd buisness.

semi good point, but id set up an ebay shop and just keep em listed on their permanently and wen one sells, you buy one and send it off (i was suggesting motorcross dvds as i knew the difference in price, but i think biking dvds are similar cost wise, so youd possibly get a small market of people off here, but im sure if you looked into it, surfing, snowboarding, skating, skateboarding etc would all have similar outcomes and as youd need no stock providing you knew a local place that sold them) . as for the postage im paying $5 per dvd generally, which is £2.50ish, cant see them losing anything on the postage.

stuff like mx boots helmets, jerseys, casual wear(fox, alpinestars, TLD etc), enduro jackets etc are all a lot cheaper over their too(top end helmets are 20% of the price, casual wear is generally around 50% of the price, similar price on jerseys and jackets, boots vary wildly) but youd have to be very careful on duty/leave a small print in the item discription saying you will either not be held responsible for duty incurred/will pay back 50% of it, or whatever. but as i say thats what i know, im sure if you look into it theres other stuff you can do that with ( camera lens is another one, but not sure of margins on this as i aint looked into it) small arms etc?

  • 5 weeks later...

So yeah, it's now offically the year of me moving to the USA one way or the other.

Bump to see if anyone has any other ideas?

Ebay is the only suggestion i've had so far that seems to have any potential. But like someone said ebay seems to be flooded with sellers that would make it hard to earn $200 a week from that.

Still looking into online jobs, but it's very difficult. Most things out there are useless, and boardering on scams.

A lot of people have said that if i'm not willing to do two years of training for a job i can't be serious about moving. I'm not going to do training for a job that might not get me into the country anyway. In two years the job i train for might not be required anymore. That is the main reason why i don't want to train for a job.

Any ideas, just say, don't care how stupid. :)

Also, if anyone wants to make comments about the situation i'm in instead of what the topic is about please pm me, or tell me on msn or something rather than in here.

might not be too helpful but on the training front there are many jobs which are and always will be required, electrician plumber, bricklayer stone mason, caterers etc etc . . . also laborers, can work straight away and really no traning required, you learn a shit load on the job and they may get an offer from an acquaintance etc that could lead you to bigger fish blah de blah . . .

ebay would be quite tricky id imagine, you could maybe set up a small company of your own washing windows, dog walking, small tasks but would provide a good enough living with the right market research, on the whole yanks have a lot of disposable income they dont know what to do with.

maybe a self certified therapist, there all brainwashed into believing they need shrinks over there by the media and therefore theres a bloody huge market for it

last idea may be unrealistic pretty certain illegal too but just to go from

Online poker - You dont have to be good. Bluff your way to victory.

My housemate is good at real poker cos he is good at bluffing, well he's not good, he's just stupid so thinks he's got a good hand, but he's shit at online poker, cos you cant bluff as easily.

I can't work in the USA - including my 'own buissness' i think, apart from ebay / stuff online.

Training and applying for a visa is out of the question. The can refuse you becuase they've let in too many people this year etc etc. It's very unpredicatble and the chances of actually getting in that way are slim.
