Rob_P
I remember when I bought my 50, the yamaha dealer de-restricted it before he sold it anyway, because they are so damm slow! With a de-restricted hairdryer your not going to pull away and be like WOWWWW cant hold on!! hahaIt will just help you keep up with normal traffic, being stuck at 30mph can in some cases be more dangerous! Not many people stick to exactly 30mph lets face it, there gonna be right up your arse and want to go faster, epically if your on a moped. I hate those kids that ride on peds right up against the kerb, surely thats more dangerous!Nearly every person I knew had a de-restricted ped, restricted, christ I would rather walk or get the bus. Personally i'd say get someone to do it for you.

They are desperately slow, annoying and look gay.I could have had one, but I got the bus instead.heres my advise.buses are gay, take ages and i hate them.having a bike means i can go out where and when i want.so there.andi spoke to the shop im buying my bike of and they said do 500 miles and bring it back and theyll tweak it.so yeah.Sound advice, or just wait and get a car and not look like a bellend on a hairdryer, leaning over the front wheel to try and make it go faster.look like a bellend?loland i want a scooter ebcuase of the fact i live a 30 min walk form college which i go threetimes a week and work on a saturday.also did i ask for advice on to have one or not?noso do me a favor and shut up. zoo
Righty sorry to steal the topic but I didn't see the point of making a new one for this, what is the best value for money scooter on the market that you can buy lots of parts for, because there's quite a few modded scooters knocking around that can wheelie and stuff (yes they look like idiots but f*ck does it look fun) so yeah, any makes/brands of scooter that are cheap to insure yet fast/reliable. I was thinking about buying my mates aprilia rx50 (the supermoto) off him for £500,to learn gears on and stuff, but It'd take me ages to save up £500 hence me wanting a cheap scooter.Plus the insurance on the rx50 for me would be near enough to like £600 due to me living in a horrible area full of scum bags + it'd just be stuck around my back yard. I would only use the bike for local traveling anyway, I won't be getting one soon though due to my only income being EMA Unless I get my job in topman lol.If that makes any sense, probably not. The Hitcher
Fookin ell, take a chill pill, just my opinion, I personally hate scooters, since very wanker around my area has one. matt rushton
I Say get it d-restricted, you have about 10% chance of getting caught for it. Proberly less. Every single person I know who has one has theres done because there just too slow if you don't and you end up causing massive traffic jams. Also if you want to get it properly going. 70 piston kit is good also a Racing pipe. If you want to get 70 out of it.

Joe Sheehan!
Course you can. its more of a buzz trying not to slide out on a bike.+1 Cars are for Kw33rz! MEGA LOLZ! Nah joking aside, 60 round a bend in a car is like meh, whereas on a bike its like WOAAAHH!!...basically.
RobinJI
And on a moped its like "smash, slide, bang...." Theres a reason roadies dont use 16" wheels. And taking a corner at 60 keeping it on the edge of traction and timing the exit of the corner just right to get the maximum speed out again is equaly fun. Just gotta drive right, and know the road.
wrongsideof40
yes get it de-restricted, depending on the scoot a pug 50 2stroke can only get a max of 60ish out of it due to the design of the engine it wont rev out, the exhaust restriction governs the power (bhp) a race can will add upto about 1.5 extra bhp which will bring it upto a massive 4 or 5 bhp the variator governs the speed of the rear wheel through the rev range, a racing clutch and springs moves the usable power from the engine for different speeds. When I was into it about 8-9 years ago the best scoot for tunning was a honda (cant remember the model) it was possible to get about 110mph out of a 50 with a 85cc cylinder kit installed and racing crank/piston and a programmable cdi with a load more other bits and pieces replaced ( very, very expensive !! ) and mainly done for circuit racing and sprint racing. And yes buzzing around on a sooped up 50cc scoot will out run, from the lights nearly every car on the market but only upto about 35-40mph. My current scoot will out run a lot of standard road bikes including my sons old cbr500 and his current 750 cruiser but there again my scoot is a sooped up 400cc . Gavyn.
+1 Cars are for Kw33rz! MEGA LOLZ! Nah joking aside, 60 round a bend in a car is like meh, whereas on a bike its like WOAAAHH!!...basically.you've clearly never been in a mini, 60 round a bend is way more fun than on a scooter plus it's not like you can try and get you're knee down or that and 60 is flat out on a big bike you can go round the bend at 60 then go up to 170 + if you're brave enough.I don't belive that you got 110 out of a 50cc either with a 70cc big bore and a few other mods my honda would do 45 how much difference is 15cc going to make definatly not 65mphalso out running just about every car from the lights lmao 50's accelerate fairly slowly they'll get away until about 15 mph then the car has traction and is gone scooters suck bigger bikes and good handling cars are where it's at. Si-man
You obviously havnt seen some of the scooters about then.you can get Aerox 50's to do 75mph from doing pretty much f**k all to them. They do drag racing on scooters and can get pretty fast times to. wrongsideof40
Im Not going to get into an argument with you cos im not in the mood, The only thing I will say is You Obviously do not know anything about 2 stroke engines or bikes in general. Just do some googleing for sprint clubs and look at some results. My current scoot will do 0-60 in just over 5secs, how many box standard cars will do that. and 60-100 in about another 5 secs. my first scoot a tweeked 50 would do 0-40ish in just over 4 secs ( you do the maths ). And the only thing cars are good for is having a ciggy in the warm when your stuck in traffic which is more often than not and board out of your skull wishing for a bit of excitement in your life and also transporting your 2 wheeled enjoyment about. But i dont want to argue about it Just found this on youtube, there not slow Oh look heres another one Edited November 16, 2007 by wrongsideof40
MadManMike
Yeah but they are hardly standard.I think the point being made is that either a proper bike or car is more fun.I'd have to agree - scooters look immensely stupid.
wrongsideof40
I thought the whole thread was about de-restricting scooters, does that not make them non-standard, It all depeands how much you want to spend to how un-resricted you want itor am i missing something. Scoots may look stupid , but there cheap to keep on the road, compared to a car, very little maintance needed compared to a bike and for very little money can be made to out run most cars in built up areas. Personaly I own a 2l sri motor and a 400cc scoot and 2 off road bikes (which are not fast but are the most fun) I will choose the scoot every time over the car for speed, fun and commuting. At the end of the day I would rather be riding what i can afford and scoots fit the bill better than walking.
Simpson
I'm sorry, did i just read someone arguing you can have more fun on a scooter down the twistys then you can in a car?Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat. Yes definatly 1000% in my mind. I drive a 1.4 brand spanking new fiesta, which is plently fast enough. And a 100cc Speedy.....My cars gone up to 115 downhillMy scooters done 65ish on the flatWould i prefer to be feeling my back wheel sliding out getting the bike down watching the floor wizz straight past my head.. ... or sit in a massive box, with airbags and about a million saftey functions to keep me safe.... theres just no question..... when i came off the roundabout in my car i was just sitting there thinking... "f**k this is going to be expensive" when i ever come off my bike your thinking, "theres a cerb there.... thats going to hurt.... shit.... thats...."... "yep ok that hurts that hurts a lot" and only costs like 20quid to fix usuallyScooter everytime... just insured my motorbike though... so goodbye twist and go ease! i know im going to miss how simple it is! lol
