ok guys/girls I took some of your advice and my own tensioner and I'm well chuffed. I used an old rusty bracket an old jockey wheel from a derailleur some bolts, nuts, washers,a vice,a hammer and cable ties after half a days work of messing around trying to get the shape it looks like this...

It seems to work ok at the moment but haven't gone on a proper ride yet but I am after lunch, I will edit if I'm in one piece or not when I get back.

Seems to be working OK for now. :)

OK guys, my mech hanger bent today as well as my derailleur, so I want to go single speed but which tensioner ?

I do like the "stealthy" look of the 74kingz also I guess its harder to land on then a normal tensioner which is bolted on to a mech hanger, but when searching I heard a lot about how it doesn't hold its tension ?

But also people who love the tensioner with no problems. If the tensioner doesn't hold tension very well would doubling up the springs fix it ?

or if you guys / girls have other opinions please advice. Oh also, I looked on tarty / crc but I couldn't find a mech hanger which looked like the one on my Giant Team Trials 04 if anyone know where I can get a spare one say so.

Thank you,

Rik

people have so much trouble with tension...it does get silly! You really don't need as much as you might think and the 74 kingz does its job fine...

however...you can save yourself loads of money modifying a mech, or a decent amount of weight by making your own tensioner...

search for the "homemade tensioners" thread and have a look at some- some great ideas (Y)

Right, i now love my 74 kings! it did take a while thou, i'm using eclipse hack saw blades at the lenght of 110mm, doubled up and with some nice hub bolts it will keep in place :D

if u do get one, don't over tension the springs.
