Also: What kind of mod calls forum users 'retards'?

I tried to make sure I didn't call you a retard, because that wouldn't be very nice. It's quite frustrating though because arguments seem to follow you around - ever since you joined the forum I seem to remember. Maybe you could just think about what you're posting and that no one really cares about what you have to say about macs. You could always vent your spleen on some computer forum where people might even listen to you. But yeah, I really didn't call you a retard, retard. Just kidding ;)

Anyway, back on topic:

What to do with £1000?

<sensibleness>

I don't really agree with that. I find that as a student, the amount you spend is proportional to how much you have. By that I mean that if you have money, it will disappear anyway, whether you're trying to spend it or not. If I had an extra £1000 in my account, it would slowly disappear over the year on CDs/clothes/beer/bike bits. Whereas if I just went out and spent £1000, I might have something to show for it. Carpe Diem I say :D

How can I possibly agree with both you and steve?

can I call him a retard with impunity?

edit: mostly joking btw.

Well, yes...But theres not many working environments where a Mac would be appropriate; offices, warehousing, manufacturing, retail...A mac is seems more designed for home use...

Actually, theres a difference between the way windows and macs render fonts on screen and as such, macs have got the typography stuff down to a T. So many rewsprint comnpanies, graphic designers etc use macs because the fonts are rendered better. f**k knows why, f**k knows if windows has caught up yet but thats one of the reasons people will willing through money away on old hardware.

mac users still need windows, windows users don't need macs.

I'm not up for joining this stupid debate cos it's really off topic but that's the stupidest thing i've ever f**king heard.

I haven't used a PC since I was about 7 for anything apart from when I had to using excel in Uni, as there weren't any Mac's. I'd just save my work on my memory stick and do it on Excel at home on my Mac.

There's no logic to what you said, you're just being argumentative and a retard.

Thats a bit of a false statement to make "ive won £1000". Youve been granted that money for a specific reason. i guess your too immature to read the national newspapers on the vast numbers of students in serious financial debt from student loans. i could be old fashioned and say dont become another student statistic, but YOU ARE A STUDENT so your already in the financial sh*t before the financial sh*t has begun. oh dear, poor you. you think you have a reason to be happy with £1 ^_^:):D:lol: , but the reality is youll be paying back £2 :o :$ :(

Re: The mac/windows typography thing. It's something to do with the design philosophy - Macs are designed so that type looks good in print and PCs are designed so that it looks good on the screen.

The interest rate on student loans isn't 100%

In fact it's set at the rate of inflation so effectively it's interest-free. I've already got about £15k debt and I'm not finished yet (A friend of mine has £38k :S ). Oh well, I don't care :D

I've payed back 15% more than I borrowed and I've still got another 25% to go - which is nice.

Ive decided sensible is the right option.

That £1000 is £1000 of loan you don't have to take out and then pay back - that equates to about ten months saved on standard loan payments if you're earning between 25 and 35k a year (not including the extra interest you'd incur).

£100 less going out a month makes a big difference when you're paying rent and bills after uni - maybe it's worth holding using the cash for sensible stuff and borrowing less?

Apple refurb store is probably your best bet.
But I don't think you can get educational discount with that. So there's not much point - you might as well just buy from the Education Store as it's only marginally more expensive and you get a spanking new machine.

I had a look on there before I bought my iBook. A lot of the time, what you'll find is that the refurbished ones are older models too. So they'll be 15-20% cheaper, but they'll also be the old spec models. So it's even more pointless. I don't think they ever have particularly good deals on there.
