T.McMillan
Bought a new KHE Collapse chain that arrived today in the post a big thanks goes to TartyBikes, fitted it all succesfully. The downside is that when I pedal hard it keeps slipping off the rear cog, I think its where the cog is small. My friend uses one of these chains on a 18 - 16 tooth ratio and its fine (I wouldn't of thought a cog that is 1 tooth smaller would make a difference), so I found an old KMC Kool chain and it does the same slipping thing. the only chain that i've found that works well with that gear ratio is the reluctant halflink chain, which i snapped a few days ago so I don't want to go there again, I think the only way for me to solve this issue is go to the classic 18 - 16 ratio.I just wanted to be different and do what TartyBikes said on the website "Ideal for fine-tuning your gear ratio! Never before have 17T and 19T sprockets been readily available for stock riders, and 13T for mod bikes have always been hard to come by. So why not try 18:13 on your mod? Or 17:15 on your stock?"Has anybody else had this problem what did you do about it?Thanks in advance.Tom Edited November 9, 2007 by speedyjustice
kid creole
its not the size of the cogs , cause ive used 15t and 14t and my mate had a 13t. the sprockets might just be worn so the chain needs to bed in and strech a little. T.McMillan
the cogs are no more than a month old you used the KHE on smaller sprocket, hmm i dont know why it is, the chain alignement is perfect too
Greetings
I think "Team War Rider" rides that gear ratio on a Czar. Not sure though.

T.McMillan
Is your chainline straight?Yeah the chainline is traight, but im thinking it might be my 74kingz tensioner, its kinda bent which might be pushing it slightly to one side or something
casualjoe
Its bloody wierd aint it, iv watched it happen on a mates bike. It looks like as the chain goes over the top of the rear cog (at about 10 O'clock), a link (2 pins) lifts off the cog and then snaps back again as it gets to 12 O'Clock. My mate just uses a Half-link chain now. Uh.. not much help really o well Edited November 9, 2007 by casualjoe

Krisboats
I use a KHE on 16:13 and i've not had a problem with skipping at all. I'm not even using a deep toothed rear cog, just a standard 13tooth from a casette. I'd check your chainline or let it bed in properly first, check the tensioner and look at replacing the rear cog. Ryan Blackwell
I doubt this will help but being a KHE chain maybe it has a few stiff links causing it to go over the cog?Probly not because its new but its just somthing to check man. Nick Garland
I think "Team War Rider" rides that gear ratio on a Czar. Not sure though.I do indeed.I also run a 74kingz tensioner, mine is fine so I cannot comment why yours slips, are you running enough tension on the chain or does it flap about? T.McMillan
Buy new cogsthey were just about new when got the chain, well i reckon 6 weeks at the most? What cog your useing im sure that will be the problem. Get a surley and you should be fine.surely cogs front and back, do you reckon i should replace the rear one?lets get a pic of ur rear end!aye i run it. 17 15 on my czar, havin nae bother at all. dont run a collapse though....just get a kool chain. no need for a collapse, unless your a fatty. or damon...i never had this problem with a half link, i might try a kmc, although i tried an old kmc and i had the same problem, im not a fatty I do indeed.I also run a 74kingz tensioner, mine is fine so I cannot comment why yours slips, are you running enough tension on the chain or does it flap about?no tension is very tight if i dont have it very tight then its worseit is annoying, in that picture looking at the chain alignment, i moved it last night slightly to see if that works, i have moved the rear cog about 5 times but it still doesn't make a differencedoes everbody think new rear cog and chain? ben_travis
how old are your cogs? if they are under a month old, then no, they will be fine.....how olds the chain? if its a KHE u might have a stiff link in it. i remember when i had a khe it was f**ked within a week. with stiff links.hence going back to a kmc....get a new one o them and see if it works. remember with a surly though, its a wide cog front and rear. so get the wider kmc...i reckon this should solve your problem
AdamR28
Two things:- Lube chain- Flip springs around on your tensioner - they are bent at the top, if you move the bend to the bottom it will create a more natural angle for the runner and you'll be able to apply correct tension again. You don't need to bend the hell out of the springs, just give them a gentle curve.Ads
