Gavyn.
That would be the 'medical' definition of muscle tone - but that's certainly not what most people think of muscle tone. They're two completely different things. If you say someone's well-toned, you aren't referring to the fact that they're not a spastic*. I'm with Bondy on this - to most people, tone is what the muscle looks like from outside and is a combination of having a reasonably-sized muscle and not much fat around it - I.e. they look healthy.* Spasticity means an increase in muscle tone which comes as part of certain neurological diseases (E.g. stroke, cerebral palsy).I don't agree on the "look healthy bit". I do agree with the rest of what you've said but bondy says the only way to make muscle look "toned" is to lose the fat around it. but you have to increase the size of the muscle too otherwise you'll just look skinny and not toned. so a toning exercise is something thats a cardiovascular challenge but also works another group of muscles, Eg - swimming, cycling, running, circuits pretty much any exercise really. Fish-Finger-er
Having a 6 pack doesn't make you a better fighter if thats what you meantTrials punk do you reckon it would be physically possible for me to put on 7kg on for febuary because I need to make weight to fight at lightweight... and I'm only 57kg :$possibly not the best person to ask on this, as weight gaining etc isnt really something i read in to(the reason i appear to know a lot about training is, because when i start doing something i tend to do a hell of a lot of reading about it, and talking to people whove been doing it for years etc)but id certainly say yes. some of the blokes at the gym talk about gaining 2 kg a month naturally, and some of the ones on steroid cycles will gain well over triple that if its one of there first cycles of the off season. also bear in mind, you only need to make the weight for weighing, you dont need to keep it fighting, drinking 2l of fluid before getting weighed will show over a 4lb weight increase. so if your a kilo or say off its nothing to worry about. SQuiT-man
when you say "get fit", i assume maybe you mean loosing fat, as opposed to just stamina?ive probs got pretty shit stanima, but im fairly built/slim, and this is PURELY from just building up ur muscles in the gymif you build up ur muscles you become a LOT less efficient, and just day-to-day living uses a lot more energy and burns off a lot more fat. I never do CV, but after a few months of not doing weights once a week i start to put fat back ondo u mean a powerball? i used to be a powerballer, it's fun/challenging, but doesnt do that much for ur body other than increase grip strengthmaybe buy some argos weights to use at home? I'm slim, but got a mahooooosive belly from drinking and eating too much crap. I want to lose the belly and fill out a bit more up top. I don't wanna go to the gym because i'm not interested in being 'fit' as such, just wanna get rid of my tum.I thought that getting a speed ball hung in the garage would help me work my arms and stomach and its a bit easier just to go in there than to spend money at the gym. Maybe i'm wrong.
