Matt_Zoot
I have been saying it for months if not years. I need to get fit and i'm finally gonna do it. My mate said I should get a speed ball and beat the f**k out of it every night when I get in from work. He's fat so I don't really trust his method. And plus I don't wanna go and spend 'x' amount on one if it's not likely to work too well. What do you lot reckon?Matt

Matt_Zoot
Gym membership Nah, I'm not up for the gym, I want something where I can just go into a room at home and get on with it. I can never be arsed to go to the gym, plus most of the people in the gym near me are up themselves and packed full of steroids. Si-man
f**k the gym, all you need is trainers and motivation to run.Im shit at this, but watch these people do it near me. Find a f**k off massive hill, thats fairly long, starting at the top, run down it. go back up to a set point you make on it. repaeat but as you go up next time, increase the distance by say 5m if the hill is big enough. keep increasing till you fall over or pass out.do that for couple of weeks and you should notice a difference in stamina, leg strength and breathing.Getting a road bike may help you get fit to. Maybe the speed ball idea is a good'un.
Concussion
I'd just get a cheap set of weights and find a good upper body workout on the net.

Matt_Zoot
I always end up getting stitch after a couple of minutes, despite trying to control my breathing (in through the nose out through the mouth)I'm the same, thats why the boxing speed ball thing sounds tempting, I'll let out all my aggression from work n get fit at the same time. f**k it, i'm gonna buy one, i've convinced myself. abtrials
get up the gym- if you cant be arsed with that chances are you wont bother with anything if your not interested in it, most people start of at the gym and find it a chore but if you get into it you cant get enough of it due to the buzz and feeling you gain from doing exersize (namedly testosterone increase) but also fitness and believe it or not you tend to have more energy once you exercise! or alternativly people want the result but dont enjoy the gym so never keep it up.other than that my friend i would say ride more? or find a sport that you are interested (join a boxing, kickboxing etc... club) in this way you will stick to it? hope this helps
Tomm
Do you actually want to 'get fit' or lose weight, or gain muscle? (Or all three I guess?)Apparently quite a good way to lose weight (fat) is to exercise or cycle to school/work/wherever first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. And then eat breakfast as soon as you finish/arrive. Something to do with low blood sugar levels in the morning, so any exercise is really hard work. I can see it working though - I went out on an XC ride before dawn (on an empty stomach) the other day and my legs were dead half way up the first climb. There was no pain, and I wasn't out of breath, my legs were just like jelly. Really weird. So, er, yeah it might actually be doing something clever.I say just eat sensibly - fill up on fruit and veg stuff and don't eat too much badness. And then just do a bit more exercise in the day. I realised recently that my road bike's done over 2000 miles over the two years I've had it. Think how many calories that must have burnt! But the reason this regime works is because there is no 'fuel' (blood glucose) available so your body shifts to metabolising other things - which would be either fat or protein. Usually protein metabolism is used before fat when you don't eat (I.e. proteins broken down and converted to energy) so I'm not quite sure about the actual way this diet works. But it is recognised. JonMack
I find riding my BMX places helps me increase my leg strength and stamina, that's mainly because I ride everywhere as fast as I can though. If your job is within riding distance of your house, and you know you can get there in say, 15 minutes, start leaving 10 minutes before you should be there, so you HAVE to ride faster or you will be late. That's what I used to do.

Matt_Zoot
think i'll give it a go. My problem is I'm lazy, so going to the gym or out for a run is not a good option in my book, whereas pressups are ok 'cos I can do them in my bedroom and then just go to sleep! Also, beating the shit outta the speedball would be good... well just 'cos it is!
Caleb
ab crunches are good for your well abs . . . lolive been doing around 35 push ups and a few minutes of lying on my my hands face up lifting one leg vertical and the other within an inch of the floor and holding then change and repeat. if you can visualise that?really does work, might hurt your back for the first few days but persist and you should see a noticeable difference

But it is recognised.ok the fact that 90% of people dont have enough protein in there diets anyway, most peoples muscles are aleready deficiant in the correct amont of protien (2-3 grams of protien per kg of your body weight) so by doing this the fist thing the body will do is break down muscle fibres as they dont have a sufficiant amout of protein's to support them? which will have the reverse efect if you want to increase stamina and upper body strangth? Tomm
I have no idea what gets metabolised first in this regime, as I said. It's supposed to be a way of burning fat quickly (NOT building up muscle), and you'll probably lose some muscle as an inevitable consequence. Simply fasting doesn't really help burn fat as protein is metabolised first. However, perhaps when exercising fat will get burnt as the body realises it needs to keep hold of protein and switches to fat metabolism. I don't know, but the idea has obviously come from somewhere. I never said it was a good idea
