Children In Need

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just thought it might be a good idea to maybe do something for Children in Need. Maybe something like a sponsored ride around London or Birmingham?

Somewhere where it would be noticed. Would be good to get the sport out there and a bit more well known, to get more people in to the sport and to raise

money for a good cause. It's just ideas and thoughts at the moment, thanks for taking the time to read this. and if you've got any ideas or opinions they'd be greatly appreciated.

thanks again

Mitch

Sounds like a good plan to me, we had a good chat about that earlier... Would be a good way to raise money and help promote the sport...

Something like a BIG demo would be very good... entry fee for people to watch, a good lineup and section :) could raise alot of money for charity with the right advertising etc (Y)

This may be the best idea i have ever heard, show people that us trials riders are caring folk of the community, not little bellends that ruin stuff for others :)

london sounds bangin'

(PS. Simpson, if you read this, do you have any idea when your london ride will be? try to make it bigger than last time, cause it'll be huge :))

Thanks for your replies, I'm going to have a look into dates, locations etc.

Just throwing around a few idea's at the moment.. Not quite sure if we could pull off a demo.. But we'll see what comes up! will have to get in touch with local Councils etc (boring bits) but ill update with anything i think is necessary.

It's really nice to know that people are willing to help a good cause, and it's a good excuse for a big ride, not that we need one!

Would be nice to give people the right impression about us, stop them thinking we're yobs.

Thanks again everyone!

Mitch.

can i make a geographic point in that despite there are a large concentration of riders from london, I think the REST of the UK would appreciate somewhere more central to the UK so they can atleast attend based on distance from themselves. IE birmingham or somewhere like that.

Just an idea because people may not be able to get to london etc. Have a couple of rides all in one day at different locations, so say one london, one in yorkshire somewhere, manchester etc and then a lot more people would be able to join. Just an idea like I said.

Suprised it'll work...

Organised rides bring a big crowd...99% of the the time we get told to f**k off and threaten to have our bikes taken off us...

Orgranising a ride like this with a potential MASSIVE crowd will attract a hell of a lot of attention...and then its a lot more likely we'll be stopped by police, even if it is a charity event as effectively, the public are at risk...

Sorry to put a downer on things, but I think it needs more thought than a street ride...I'd say your best option would be to write to the Beeb and ask if you could do a display live on TV....I doubt they'd refuse you...of course if you were good enough.

Not particularly handy to the majority of us; but could be a possibility for the M.A.D or Onza riders? Even selective street riders may be up for it?

Also, what exactly is being sponsered here? You can't just sponser someone for turning up in Birmingham and riding around for a bit...Only thing I can think off is creating an audience and begging them for money...

It may be more beneficial to donate peoples travel costs...

Thanks for the replies, the idea was to raise money for a good cause and i knew organising it wouldn't be easy.

I admit it does seem very far fetched but i thought with the help of people on here it would become easier and seem possible.

I was thinking of Birmingham or London because of their position, accessability and for impact, but the idea of people in different cities is good, will get everyone involved and aware, possibly have an elected person to organise their area, liase with the council etc.? Maybe a bit to ambitious at this stage, but with a bit of luck and sufficient support this can be sorted out! Don't want to leave anyone out, or have people not involved because its not local enough.

As for sponsorship, not the best idea, but possibly have people (riders friends, family, partners anyone!) in fancy dress or something with buckets that people can donate to (not begging in my opinion, especially where charity is concerned, and people will be donating of their own free will and because they respect/are impressed with the riders and their abilities).

I will be writing to the BBC to get their input on the idea, and will post the reply on here, and hopefully have there backing.

I wasn't thinking a ride round town midday on a busy saturday or something, more along the lines of a set area, with a perimeter, and an area for observers so there is no risk to the public. Having looked into it, i doubt that we can get a TV crew, but local newspapers would probably attend and cover the event.

Like i said at the start, it's an off the cuff idea, wasn't sure how seriously it would be taken, or how feasible it actually is, was looking for some feedback on the idea. Hopefully, with a response from the BBC, we can start the ball rolling, or stop it if necessary, either way, will keep you all informed as soon as anything comes up.

Thanks again,

Mitch.

Doesnt sound like a farfetch idea at all but if we could centralize the ride so it is more local to the majority of the people and i think brum will be very good. Wheather this time of year isnt to great so maybe a good route under a big ass marque.

Really should do this boys.

I will try n sort something out.
