liam-pantera
Hi guys recently after having wasted hours and hours and pints of blood because of my 74kings i have decided to go back to a derailer , so now i was wondering wich one would be most suited for trials .i would also like to know if i should go with short cage or long , and also i dont have enough money for a rohlf tensioner so i need something with alota spring in it thanks guys . Onza Kieron
Short cage Sora, 105 or Tiagra seems to be the choice of most.
JoNnY__Mc
Short cage Sora, 105 or Tiagra seems to be the choice of most. The best bet Or just go to the tip, look for an old bike with a deralier and use that... anything will do

JonMack
Soras are about £15, not exactly a bank breaker
2sixstreet
The best way is a homemade job. Theres quite a big thread on this which will give you a few ideas. If thats not your thing then go for the Sora short cage. I know of someone with one excess to requirements...
Waynio
id really consider a Rohloff tensioner, there probably the best "derailer" type tensioner on the market. Buy one and you will never have to buy one again. there bombproof and pimp.Wayne.

Waynio
Honestly buddy, if youve never used a Rohloff before, after you have used one you wont go back to anything else!!!! There great.Wayne.
Endohopper
Don't give up on tensioners just yet , especially if you don't intend to run any gears as a well set up tensioner is considerably lighter and more resistant to knocks than most derailleurs . Just realise that a tensioner will never work well out of the box , but with some careful adjstment to ensure it works with your choice of chain and sprocket , they can do wonders . Si-man
Get a short caged sram X-7 or 9.better than shitmano as they dont bounce about like f**k as the spring system is totally different.
liam-pantera
Get a short caged sram X-7 or 9.better than shitmano as they dont bounce about like f**k as the spring system is totally different. You are right about that si-man , ive tried the spring system on a sram x9 before and i quite liked it . Also if your main arm breaks off you can use the first cog as a tensioner just like neil tunnicliffe used to .Checked my bank and im going to have to buy a rolhf and hope there as good as people say they are , thankyou to everyone that has replied and if the rolhf fails im going to buy a shimano sora super short mech .
