New Job Help

Right ive had the last 2 weeks off work due to a back injury (which happened at work) and im in limbo deciding what to do.

My back is still a little bad now, so im going to go see doctors again.

1st time I went they reccamended I change carrer to something more back friendly (im a motor vehicle technician)

Do I stick at it, and soldier on, hoping my back will take it, or get another job - which leaves the next conundrum.

Ive been doing my currnet job for 5 years, and all my qualifications are gear to this one job. I left school 7 years ago so my GCSEs are now invalid.

I cant see myself fitting into an office roll, I hate stting at comuters and really enjoy hands on work.

Im super stuck here, as I cant afford to go back to uni/trainning (to many bills to pay, got approx £15k of tools for work to finish paying for, +rent, and other utilities)

What would you guys do n such a situation???

yea that would be a good one.

Unfortunatly the people I work for are scum, and wont give people pay rises unless they brown their way to one.

Owner sacked our tyre fitter so he could buy a new Bently.

Where would I apply for such jobs like VOSA? cant find anywhere that doesnt just advertise for cleaners and other crap work

Ask for some compensation cos of the injury

Indeed do, I work in Health and Safety so if you want some advice then feel free to pm me :)

I'd look for another job mate, yes, ok you say you can 'stick with it'...but for how long? You have a long working career ahead of you, all that could be cut dramatically short by the next wheel you pick up; its not just a bad back, its potentially crippling.

Office work, yes, its kind of shit. I, like you, enjoy a lot of hands on work, but I'm stuck behind a desk most of the time so I too am looking for a change in career. Seriously considering the Army now, using my current qualifications I should be on a pretty decent wage from the start.

Your qualifications will not expire, but your experience will. You might be able to come back to being a Mech. Tech later on, but would you hire someone who hasn't 'officially' worked on a car in 10 years (for example)?

Is there another less 'heavy' job you can carry out at work? Although you're gaffer sounds a tosser, so I can't see that one happening...

Weirdly I was just looking through the jobs section in my local paper, saw an advert for a VOSA job in Salisbury and thought the web address might help you:

I dont think I could claim compensatin on this one.

Injury occured when I was removing a towbar from a Ranger, was kneeling behind it removing the rear bumper, stood up and my back locked.

Trapped a nerver. Cant see how the company is liable, I was supplied with correct saftey gear and training ect.

There won be any persuading my boss to let me do something differnet. I went back in a week after this happened and all I got was "get back to work or go home"

Not even a hello or are you ok.

Ill look into thise VOSA jobs and see what come about.
