James
Hey, ive just moved into a new flat at uni which is really nice and all that but weve just realised it doesnt have any internet ports at all. All it has is one bt phone socket next to the door, the old type that you plugged dial up into i suppose. So am just wondering if it is at all possible to recieve Broadband through one of these sockets, obviously it will be a BT subscription. Also, has anyone has any experience with bt for internet and if so, are they any good? any recomended packages for 4 students? Ta very much like. Simpson
Probably could use a spliter to turn 1 line into 2 then run a wireless modem so you can all run your own PC's off of it without need for ports?
Guest
if you mean an adsl filter then yes, if you mean a 1-2 splitter then no, you don't really need it.I've just moved into my own flat and have the same set-up.Get on the phone to BT, they will tell you wether or not your line is activated, if it is a new flat it robobly wont be, we had to pay £120 to get ours done, well, we got the landlord to pay it. From then on you pay BT your line rental, about a tenner a month or so, and then also pay your internet provider, if you go with bt for broadband they will provide you with a wireless router, provided you have wireless you can set it by the single phone socket, or if you don't you'd need some way of having it near your pc to run a network cable to.we are very lucky, a guy who lives in one of the other flat's works for BT broadband, we shouldn't be recieving any bills for a good little while

Muel
Unless you set up a wireless network and let them use it...
BONGO
Unless you set up a wireless network and let them use it...Why go to the trouble of getting your line connected if you're using the other flat's connection.

What's his name???Im hardly going to tell you his name I don't know the ins and out's of it.(which would explain why i didn't go on bout it) If we get a bill, we'll pay it, if not, we won't have to. I'd have thought it would be done in the same manner as customer retention sorta stuff, when you ring and say your leaving and they give you 3 months free or whatever..... BONGO
If you give me his name, i type it into our BT directory and it'll say what his job title is, that's all i wanted it for. You think i actually give a toss to report it!!! I'll tell you now you'll get a bill. It would be nice if you didn't.
