NVWOCI WVS Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 im considering bunging one of these deore jobbys on the front of my mod, do you reckon it will take trials abuse? they look pretty smart and aparently give a stronger wheel build. anyone got any experience with them? it's only £17.50 on CHAIN REACTION CYCLES so it might be worth a try? AdamR28 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 It uses standard spokes, you hook the heads into the slots.The advantage comes if you need to change a spoke - they come straight out rather than having to bend/untwine them from the others. You can also change a spoke without having to take the cassette/disc rotor off.Built quite a lot of those hubs a few years back, seemed ok, but spoke breakage was more common than with conventional hubs. strat-trials Posted October 4, 2007 Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 Those BMX ones are mostly so you don't grind through the heads of your spokes. The deore one doesn't look like it would do that, but then again doubt you'll be doing grinds on it. Spose its useful if you bang your hubs a lot...I had one in a back wheel, was fine for riding around on but never used it for trials. I'm sure it'll be fine. planet x alan Posted October 4, 2007 Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 like the idea of that bmx hub, got the extra bit on it to protect the spokes from smith grinds and stalls and stuff quite cool!and you wouldn't be able to lace a hub in radial pattern if you're gonna use a disk it will just twist it all round wouldnt it? balfa Posted October 4, 2007 Report Share Posted October 4, 2007 Don't buy a shimano hub! I'm sure plenty of people will testify how long the bearings last.
