Tony Harrison
In my car I have a JVC CD headunit. It's fairly good, plays CDs, radio, etc, none of that remote control and spazzy blue graphics bollocks! On the back it has a pair of phono connectors marked 'out', and four speaker terminals (RL, RR, FR, FL). I'm guessing the phono is for an amp (which I don't have or want). If I buy a pair of 6x9's and some half-decent 4" front speakers, can I run them straight off the speaker outputs?Following on from that, what would people recommend speaker-wise? I'm after good quality sound, with nicely balanced mid-range/bass, without paying a fortune. Just really want a tidy sound setup that I can play loud, but not ridiculously boy-racer loud, if you see what I mean...Any help appreciated. The Stig
Most speakers will work fine, all are pretty much universal however try before you buy As for some speakers i would go for some Vibe 6x9's and w/e in the front doesn't really matter Tom
sidehop
Best advise is to go to halfords, You can test the speakers and they will help you fit it.
Tony Harrison
Yeah, I was thinking of going to Halfords to have a look. Probably buy online though as it's cheaper. Think I can deal with fitting them. Going have to modify my parcel shelf anyway...

Think I can deal with fitting them. Going have to modify my parcel shelf anyway...I came up with a genius idea for mine, I bought the car with some dodgy cut outs and some rather "blingin" 6x 9's. They just annoyed me being sat there so i mounted them underneath the shelf and stapled some t shirt fabric to the underneath of the shelf. Problemo solved, good sound and no horrendous spaceship shaped speakers!
haydon_peter
You should be fine running the 6*9's and a set of coaxial's off the head unit.I recommend JBL speakers if your on a budget
Tony Harrison
Thanks for all the help. The parcel shelf needs beefing up - anyone got any advice on wood? MDF or ply? How thick, 10-15mm?

sexymike
8-10mm MDF probably best I made mine from 2* 18mm sandwiching the original parcel shelfbass was amazing, spend time on your set up and wiring, the product will be twice as good. JTM
Ian is that you? Or do I have totally the wrong person?Money would be better spent on decent front speakers and a small amp for them imo
hI-OOPS-CAPS
you can go to halfords for advice, and theyll tell you whats best for your car. if they recommend any speakers you could probably buy them on the internet and let halfords fit them cheaper than buying them from halfords
