Matthew62
I was just wondering where you guys usually buy your brake fluid from (not talking about maggies). The only place i have found that sells it is halfords, but its £10 for 500ml which i think seems a little steep. So where do you usually go for your Dot fluid? Cheers,Matt. trials_pimp
I get mine from work, for free.I work as a tech at a ford main dealer so its easy to come by.Ford Spec Super DOT 4. Higher boiling point and better water retension than normal DOT 4.
Matthew_Gibson
Try your automotive spare store, I get stuff on tarde at halfords anyway, so I get it for like 30p!

Fixed Pants™
If your local petrol station is any good, it should have it, i got 500ml of it from mine for 3/4 quid, and this petrol station is pretty much a rip off! timmorley
hi, i got mine from the local petrol station. i think it was £3 for 500ml of either dot4 or dot 5.1 i thought that was quite a good price. when i used to have my hope i ran dot5.1 with motorbike oil it had a higher boiling point and the lever felt alot firmer it was really good.tim
Matthew62
Thanks, the petrol station makes sense, don't know why i didnt think of that. Also seems like a much more reasonable price. Thanks again.
moto_psycho
All the Dot reading stands for is boiling point, you can have dot 3 in maggies and they will be fine (ive never seen lower than 3), you can still have low quality 5.1.The main benefits of Dot 3,4,5.1 is that it is hydroscopic (absorbs water), dot 5 is silicon based (others are glycol) and does not absorb water, allowing it to travel to the bottom and corrode calipers. It tells you in the magura manual not to use DOT brake fluid http://www.magura.com/7thsenseCMS/index.ph...d=13795&L=1Reasons being the rubber seals will perish, dont believe me? Get some rubber gloves, pour brake fluid on them and see how much easier they split. Or even better pour it on ur mums car and see what happens Use the proper fluid. I personally run water/anti-freeze 50/50 in mine, the antifreeze acts as a corrosion inhibitor.ahhhh shit, just read that its not for maggies, oh well... just got in from work, may as well leave it therehalfords normal and motorbike stuff is good, carplan are good to, thats what we use at work (mechanic) depends what its going in really]once again id like to add i feel a twat for writing that out un necessarily Edited September 21, 2007 by moto_psycho
Matthew62
My original post ...... ''(im not talking about maggies)'' this discussion is for my Hope and Hayes disk. I'd have to travel a long way to pour it on my mums car, be easier to just pour it on my car!
Phreemann
I'd recommend DOT 5.1 over DOT 4... Simple reason being that DOT 5.1 won't cause your skin, paintwork, and anything else it touches to peel faster than you can say "Oh God, it burns."It's more expensive, but worth it as far as I'm concerned.
