Trialsnewb4life
Ive only been riding for three days and i thought the first thing i'd tackle, considering i can trackstand fairly well, is getting on the back wheel. Ive read trashzen and have watched those ryan leech clips on youtube and im having a bit of trouble. I can get the front wheel up and then put the brake on, but i cant seem to get the back to stay stood up. I think it may be down to not having the confidence to lean back enough, but when ever i get it up and the back brake on, i keep falling forward. Should i just try leaning back more, or is there something else that i might not be addressing???Also, genral hints and tips to start out would be great. I can bunny hop about 4 inches so getting up curbs is no trouble, but how do i add hieght? Ive tried both with rolling and standing hops. I know the problem is technique, but what about my technique is wrong? (i shall try and get a vid of me riding, twill be a crappy camera phone job though)Also, something thats niggling me. Ive measured the rims and they seem to be a weird size. They are 11 inch from the centrer of the hub to the outer edge of the rim? What size does this make them? El Cristoff
Hello mate, welcome to the forum.First off, i would definitely try to lean back a little more, you'll know if its too much cause you'll fall off. It does take a little practice to get used to, but once you know how to it'll become like second nature to you.Secondly, try lifting the front of the bike upwards more, and then push forward and down on the bars to flick the back end up, this should gain more height (over the more traditional British bunny hop, which involves both wheels leaving at the same time)Thirdly, what size wheeled bike are you using? mod (20"- BMX sized wheels), 24", as the name suggests, or stock (26", mountain bike sized wheels)

I shall keep tryingIll try getting up to a bench near hear, seems to be about a foot high, think thats a nice bench mark to get to.They are fairly big, Im thinking they may come up as 24's because thats how big they are if you measure to the outside of the tire. poopipe
They are fairly big, Im thinking they may come up as 24's because thats how big they are if you measure to the outside of the tire.that's how you measure them - just so you know. bunnyhop instructions are sound - most of your height comes from how high you lift the front wheel, tucking and levelling the bike afterwards gets you a bit more and stops you landing on your back.hopping in place on the backwheel is easy once you've figured out that you have to release the brake and level your pedals out while you're in the air. to get onto the back just do a little endo and lean back - you can worry about kicking into it later

g-rex
I've been struggling a bit with this too. Can do two or three hops most times but can't seem to get any more. Keep bangin me knees on the bar too! Will it make it a lot easier if I practice levelling the pedals out after the first hop?
neomember
I've learned levelling my pedals when i was fed up backhopping backward. For 2-3 hops, i think it can wait a bit. But it's a skill to learn as soon as possible. As for bunnyhops, for the first part, you need to slam your handlebar above the knees. Tuck as low as possible to get as high as possible(pull arms/push legs). It just preloads your body high above the bike so you can pull the bike with you(2nd part).I got better at bunnyhop when i practiced sidehops. You don't need to hop on the side at first. It's basically the same but using the drivetrain.Watching sidehop videos really helps! Edited September 21, 2007 by neomember
