Hey im after some decent headphones for riding in and for just general listening but i'm dead fussy. Sound quality has to be mint otherwise I won't use them and will burn them :P Well, sell them on ebay.

I found some skullcandy headphones that look mint.. anyone used them? Good sound, fit etc?

Those are the two im looking at, the first ones look tight as and i'd like them but concerned about quality of sound? Also like the second ones but they might be too bulky.

Here's the website too for more info.. Skullcandy

Oh yeah these are for bmx not trials :)

Have you thought of earbuds? They might be less of a hassle to use while riding. I have heard really good things about Shure brand earbuds, even though they are out of my budget. Depending on how much you can spend, they might be worth looking into. I've heard the sound reproduction is amazing with them.

Since I was on a tight budget, I took a chance on some cheap Koss earbuds, and have been very impressed. They come with three different sizes of earpiece covers, so you can use the one that fits best, and they isolate well. I was impressed by the bass in them. They are by no means bass heavy, but you can actually hear the bass in the music, which surprised me for something so little. (Not that bass is the measure of an earbud, as the mids and highs sound good to me as well with these.) If Koss' higher end earbuds are any improvement over the model I got, then they're pretty awesome ^_^ .

Anyway, tell us what you find and if you end up happy with it (Y) .

Not used them but we sell SkullCandy at my work

Have a really good rep and are meant to have good sound quality from what people have told me that have come back into the store.

They are a new brand than some of the others like Sennheiser or sony or anything so alot less people will be able to give you feedback.

EDIT: not that they are bad quality or anything but i think they are aimed more at the street trend than acctualy DJ's that would use somthing along the lines of Sennheiser for their rep and long lasting name.

Skullcandy have a terrible reputation with audiophiles for sounding pretty terrible, I would avoid them at all costs possible.

For riding and such I would recommend in ear headphones or canal phones, these will block outside noise better and not fall off your head/be useable with a helmet.

Try Shure E2c's or Sennheiser CX100's.

If you want over the head ones, stick with Sennheiser at lower prices and you can't go wrong.

Don't buy the Skullcandys though.

Cheers for the advice guys, I'm not too sure on the 'In-Ear' style.. Some came with my mobile and I couldn't work out what to do with them!!! I'll go have a try see if i can get them in my ear!

Will report back!

Edit: I don't think I like them :( I'm not too sure about having things inside my ear? And they also dont feel like they're going to stay in properly. Could this be because they're sony ericsson ones? I dunno

Hmm, this is proving difficult

I can't comment on the Skullycandy ones apart from they look good, but as said above the sound quality may well be shite.

I've had some Sennheiser OMX50 headphones (link which are pretty good at staying on your eat, go loud and sound really good - especially for the price. I wanted to spend money but found with those they did the job fine.

Also what I'd recommend looking at, surprisingly enough, are PSP headphones. They're in-ear and really really good. I'm using some for my iPod now because I lost the Sennheisers and don't have a spare £18 to get some more yet and they're really impressed me with their performance and how they stay in your eat. They come with different fittings for different ears, and I really wouldn't go by your Sony Erricson ones 'cos they're usually absolutely wank and cheap as owt.

And finally theres these.. Sony MDR-V300 with a Neodymium Magnet?? wtf is that? Click.

Neodymium is a fairly rare magnetic element when with the right other materials. Basically a more efficient magnet.

My friend has Skullcandy over ear ones. It has an in-line amp that you have to put a AA battery in, you can put them up so loud you don't even need them on your ears, can just be used as speakers! The quality seems fine, but I'm not an "audiophile" whatever the f**k that is.

I snapped a pair of them and don't rate them, sorry i'm not much help but i stick to Gummy's, not great life but sound amazing in my ears.

oooh lots of conflicting opinions!!

Well, there a basicly two schools of thoughts, either one are wrong, as I see it.

Audiophiles : Enjoy hi-fi stuff, basicly, listen to the stuff the way it was recorded, with all of the depth a real sound has.

Everyone else : Just want to listen to their music and have a nice sound.

I enjoy a good sound, personally. But the truth is, most of us listen to their earphone with rather low quality mp3 (yeah you can get a pretty decent sound out of them) in rather noisy environments and are actually doing other stuff and not really concentrating on the music. So if you don't have in ear earphones or noise canceling headphones, having an ubbbber sound quality isn't worth it most of the time, and I find blocking outside noise is not a good thing when in a busy city just for walking, not to mention riding.

Bottom line, the sound quality is not always that important especially when considering the price of something used ruefully...

Yeah, hence I suggested some mid-range Sennheisers - good all-rounders.

Any set of Sennheisers for around £45 will be great sounding for riding.

I won Skullcandy TIs from a local trials comp, ive been using them for some days now and sound quality is quite good but ive heard better.

So if you dont need super good quality sound then theyre great, the main reason why i like them is that my ears dont hurt when wearing them, my ears hurt with most other headphones.
