Ben b
Hey, im tempted to get an avid bb7 but am unsure what size to get and how strong they are. I have seen many pictures of broken calipers, it has slightly put me off but i know they are still amazing brakes. Also i am riding a mod, what size rotor will be most powerfull with out being stupidly big and which lever should I run with it? I have viz forks wich are +30. < well i did phone viz bikes and thats what they said .cheersBen x Edited September 16, 2007 by Ben b
Kieran@ZSClothing
Ben im sure your viz forks are standard mount, also don't get 203mm its stupid, my 185 is really powerful on a mod. and yes they do snap but i think on a mod it will be fine.Hope it helps mate, Adam
onza 999
Probibly get the 185 front rotor size. Also you may find the brake feels slugish and no bite but you will gradually feel them get awsome when the pads bed in.

Simpson
AVID BB7 - Pros* Its pretty cheap to buy * Easy to set up* dont have to ever bother re-bleeding * youll never split a hose and a new hose is a few quid* piss easy to set up* red nobs allow you to set up to personal likes* Dont have to worry about levers* VERY powerfull* reliable* if theres a problem with it its very easy to fix and diognose* i could play with my BB7 and replace bits in my garage with allen keys* could adjust the brake sideways outwards up and down using V-brake spacersCons* WELL too powerfull for front wheel moves sometimes* Can loose the red caps when knocked on rocks* have been know to break at the calipers * felt very unconfident using it for stopping down hills and genral use - it was really grabby and so it was usually a toss up between face planting on concreate or using your back brake and wasting all the tread and your pads.... usually i found myself really trying not to break at all as the brake was so vicoius it becambe really grabby and uneasy... got good a high speed rolling endos though lol was the only way to stop basically impossible to keep the rear wheel down even under moderate / hard breaking* can be hard to get replacment parts...* the tension clip fell out once and the caliper was rubbing against the rotar for ages before i realised why it was really spongyBasically do it

Danny Kearns
I personally didn't like mine. I prefer a front magura with zoo pads on a smooth rim.I just felt that my avid BB7 160mm on a mod just didn't feel good enough. So i whacked a Magura onwith zoo pads and it was much much better.I currently have on my Zoo python a 203mm Hayes mechanical disc brake. It's stupid good but i just think magura's are amazing on the front. So as soon as i get some money im going back to a maggy on the front.Danny.
