Mark W
I haven't used my laptop in two weeks, and I went to fire 'er up today and got given a message along the lines of "Shit isn't going to happen because your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SYSTEM\CONFIG file is missing or corrupt".I don't know if I actually got a setup CD with my laptop (second hand...), so in the mean time between now and me having a setup disc, can anyone shed any light as to what's gone on? By that I mean am I going to find an empty hard-drive or will it all be there and it's just a random file that's gone FUBAR?Thanks for any help... MadManMike
Have you tried booting up in safe mode?
Boswell
Try phoning up the company the PC is made by, the same happened to mine and we had no CD so we phoned up and ordered one. This was like 4 years after we bought it!
poopipe
you won't have lost any data, doing a repair from a windows install disk will fix it (unless something really is cunted which is unlikely)
Mark W
It's decided to up the stakes a bit - I now get "Primary Hard Disk Drive Failure".Get in
Willy
Sounds like the Hard Drive has packed in. If this has happened and you havn't backed up your stuff, unfortunately you will be well and truly c*nted.
poopipe
there's no guarantee it's shafted based on a message like that (it's likely but not certain)check theres no loose cables etc (ie. wiggle everything that looks like it might plug into the disk)try the disk in a different laptop / USB caddy thing (preferable) - in case your disk controller is knackered.
