Simon
Wakeboarding = winner Again, really quite inaccessible. Boat, someone to drive, big enough space, fuel, etc etc. With kiting you have the same thrill as wake boarding, i guess, but without the need for that, you just need wind and the coast. To get into land boarding you could easily spend a max of 300 and you've got a decent setup. Then to even things out, so you can go out in most wind, you get both a 3m and 4.9, will see you through most wind speeds. Speaking to the guy sponsored by Flexifoil, he has a 6m but never ever uses it, just to mental in most weather. Hell, he had to put his 4.9 down at weekend and borrow Bren's 3, and that was 25mph winds, basically the max you'll get, so a 3 and 4.9 are a good combination, from my very, very limited experience though. As you can tell, really do want to get into kiting soon. Luke Rainbird
Again, really quite inaccessible. - Depends on where you live. Kiting can also be inaccessible sometimesBoat (not necessarily, if you can find a cable park), someone to drive (again...), big enough space, fuel (same as boat/driver), etc etc - Kite/s, board/s, big enough space, travel there/back.With kiting you have the same thrill as wake boarding, i guess, but without the need for that, you just need wind and the coast. - I wouldn't say it were the same, though with similar aspects etc. There are different thrills to be had with each, as there are things you can do in one that can't be transferred to the other, and vice versaTo get into land boarding you could easily spend a max of 300 and you've got a decent setup. - I payed £160 for a really decent wakeboard with bindings, and got the guy to chuck in a free set of lines and jacket. You can get a decent pull at a lake (either boat or cable) for not a lot of cashThen to even things out, so you can go out in most wind, you get both a 3m and 4.9, will see you through most wind speeds. Speaking to the guy sponsored by Flexifoil, he has a 6m but never ever uses it, just to mental in most weather. Don't get me wrong, I totally see where you're coming from, just putting up the counter-argument I agree with you on 90% of the points you made, but just wanted to show how it's possible to get into wakeboarding for not a huge amount of money if you want to do so. At uni it's particularly easy, through societies etc too, though I haven't done this yet (maybe this year...)I'm lucky enough to live on the south coast, and we picked up a relatively cheap boat to play with (we also play about with other toys, not just wakeboards) so it's ideal for me as I can just roll down the hill, into the boat, and play (when the water's right!)On the flipside, I have a small flexifoil kite (super 10) which is a good laugh, and my housemate is into his kites with a new one at around 16m squared, so will be doing that this year too hopefully
Tomm
On the subject of wakeboarding being inaccesible...I've got a mate who wakeboards. His family own a house in Barbados (well, I say house, I mean apartment complex ) and they've got boats and stuff over there for wakeboarding. So he goes there for the summer and generally has a blast. Lucky b*****d
