Done waterskiing before, Must admit it was good but to expensive and inexcessable to be worth considering as a sport/hobby.

Recently bought a kite and aiming to be kitesurfing properly by next summer.

my mate has a 5m kite... he made it look piss with a board so i was like... meh how hard can it be! so i got the lines whipped up the kite and before i knew it i was on my ass! just had enough time to look up and see the kite rising again before i was dragged another 20m across this field! lucky he had all the harness and brake lines and stuff i just didnt know how to do it! he was laughing his ass off and i was just dragging on my ass until he caught up with me to pull the brake lol

Problem was i was trying to use all my arms... literally locking my arms... when the nack was to lean back into the lines and literally try to lie down.... fat... but as said above... wake boarding and stuff is just to dear... and hard to acess!!!!!

bahh 5m kite?

16m kite ***

got a kite board too, proper good fun.

dangerous as hell though with swimmers/surfers in the sea, especially when a large kite will be able to pick you up 15ft+

16m C kite is different though... my 3m foil kite was pulling more than a 10m C kite yesterday!

Bought a landboard today.. £100 :o

Wakeboarding = winner :)

Again, really quite inaccessible. :(

Boat, someone to drive, big enough space, fuel, etc etc.

With kiting you have the same thrill as wake boarding, i guess, but without the need for that, you just need wind and the coast.

To get into land boarding you could easily spend a max of 300 and you've got a decent setup.

Then to even things out, so you can go out in most wind, you get both a 3m and 4.9, will see you through most wind speeds. Speaking to the guy sponsored by Flexifoil, he has a 6m but never ever uses it, just to mental in most weather. Hell, he had to put his 4.9 down at weekend and borrow Bren's 3, and that was 25mph winds, basically the max you'll get, so a 3 and 4.9 are a good combination, from my very, very limited experience though.

As you can tell, really do want to get into kiting soon. :)

Again, really quite inaccessible. :( - Depends on where you live. Kiting can also be inaccessible sometimes

Boat (not necessarily, if you can find a cable park), someone to drive (again...), big enough space, fuel (same as boat/driver), etc etc - Kite/s, board/s, big enough space, travel there/back.

With kiting you have the same thrill as wake boarding, i guess, but without the need for that, you just need wind and the coast. - I wouldn't say it were the same, though with similar aspects etc. There are different thrills to be had with each, as there are things you can do in one that can't be transferred to the other, and vice versa

To get into land boarding you could easily spend a max of 300 and you've got a decent setup. - I payed £160 for a really decent wakeboard with bindings, and got the guy to chuck in a free set of lines and jacket. You can get a decent pull at a lake (either boat or cable) for not a lot of cash

Don't get me wrong, I totally see where you're coming from, just putting up the counter-argument :P

I agree with you on 90% of the points you made, but just wanted to show how it's possible to get into wakeboarding for not a huge amount of money if you want to do so. At uni it's particularly easy, through societies etc too, though I haven't done this yet (maybe this year...)

I'm lucky enough to live on the south coast, and we picked up a relatively cheap boat to play with (we also play about with other toys, not just wakeboards) so it's ideal for me as I can just roll down the hill, into the boat, and play (when the water's right!)

On the flipside, I have a small flexifoil kite (super 10) which is a good laugh, and my housemate is into his kites with a new one at around 16m squared, so will be doing that this year too hopefully :)

On the subject of wakeboarding being inaccesible...

I've got a mate who wakeboards. His family own a house in Barbados (well, I say house, I mean apartment complex  ) and they've got boats and stuff over there for wakeboarding. So he goes there for the summer and generally has a blast. Lucky b*****d >_<
