chrishayton
5 seconds of benito. yay...... they even got his name wrong
rathergoodpie
That was f**king pathetic. The one shot we get to get trials into the public eye and the BBC balls it up.
Token
5 seconds of benito. yay...... they even got his name wrong haha yep saw that. Called him 'charrell ros' or something. The commentating on the downhilling was absolutely appalling, I'm pretty sure the majority of the public would find people hopping up crazy high stuff more entertaining than riding down technical hills. Tomm
The commentating on the downhilling was absolutely appalling, I'm pretty sure the majority of the public would find people hopping up crazy high stuff more entertaining than riding down technical hills.I'm not. Especially if their clip selection was as boring as it was in the two clips they actually showed - one was benito back-hopping for about 10 seconds for a sidehop. Sooo boring. DH is easier to explain to people who don't know about it, and it looks more exciting anyway. But still, two clips is a piss-take.
Token
Okay well it's obviously personal preference but I tend to go on the reactions you get when your riding trials (people seemed to be pretty impressed) compared to riding downhill (looks like anyone could give it a go). There's abit of information on the Fort William World Championship 2007 website. CraigMackay
They did say Benito's name right in it, they said his full name though and yeah there was about 10 seconds of trials and that was it. The downhill riding was quite good but commentators got annoying

bob87
I was there in the flesh and it was awesome, the atmosphere was great.Weather was crap for spectators but it made for an amazing show from both the trials and downhill riders.Met a few of the riders and got to see some real nice bikes aswell as some nice women Talked with Ashton for a bit, i must say he is the most down to earth rider i have ever met, seem's to ride just for the passion of riding and nothing else. Thanks for having the time to talk MartynIt's a shame the BBC left out what was some of the most impressive riding of the event, but hell most people were just watching to see the big jumps. Thanks to the staff, organiser's and competitor's for putting on a great show. lankyri
it was good to see biking on tv though and it did get me motivated to go riding but was a bit disappointed about the whole english side that only one person from england got a medal and that was the a silver DH for the women, shame peaty couldnt be in 100% health and he lost his seat lolwho won the trials for men btw

haydon_peter
I recorded the program because I had better things to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon than sit inside watching TV.I too would have liked to have seen a longer section for trials, they may as well have not bothered with any trials at all. However, I thought the rest of the program was great, I even think the commentating was good. They could have done with a few more camera's covering more of the DH course as they did manage to miss a load of the crashes that led to riders missing out on medal positions, however I thought this was a minor complaint considering there was actually 2 hours of Mountain Biking on UK television! You need to remember that trials isn't the only cycling discipline and that trials is no where near as big or well followed as DH 4X or XC. It is a fast growing sport and with television companies putting in effort to produce 2 hours worth of Mountain Bike coverage hopefully next time trials will get a longer section on the program
totaltrials
It's too complicated for most people watching on tv to understand, obviously it's not going to be complicated if it's explained, but that would probably take a lot more viewing time, to people on tv it must have just looked like people backhopping on a bike and that's it, to document the competition like with the DH it would be pretty hard aswell as each rider doing 6 sections twice. With downhill and XC its easy to follow on tv, it's simply who has the fastest time and it's one run, so for trials to be properly televised I'd imagine it to be pretty difficult.Shame there wasn't a bit more to watch. Two measly clips is all I saw. Better than nothing though. Edited September 12, 2007 by totaltrials
