Tommy d
This morning while I was out riding, my rear hub started making a bit of a worrying noise, somewhere between rattling and scrunching...The last thing I did before I noticed it was a drop, but not an especially harsh one, done it before many a time. Nothing happened right then, and then as I was riding away down a hill, when I got a bit of speed I heard this really bad noise. The wheel was spinning fine though, and after I stopped to have a look and found nothing, it went away again.Any ideas what it means? I'm planning on pretending it never happened cos I'd rather like to ride London on Sunday and I'm half way through filming for a video. The hub is about a 3 year old Hope XC, been serviced once about a year ago when I had to replace the axle.Any useful info appreciated. Krisboats
Take the freehub off and have a look inside? seriously, it takes like 30 seconds.
Dan6061
Sounds like you've either broken the bearings, broke a pawl or spring, and you've got bit's of metal being ground about in the hub.Take it all apart, and give it a good clean! Rumplestiltskin
Just before my old Hope Mono died, it started making noises like that. Turned out the drive ring was totally knackered - maybe this is the case with yours? Either way, take it apart and have a look at the freehub area in general. Onza Kieron
Sounds like it could possibly be a snapped axle again, although I assume you have checked it.
Tommy d
Well the main reason I haven't just popped it open to have a look is cos it's effort! Have to split the chain or take the cranks off, and usually the lockring puts up a fight...Anyway it's all coming apart soon so I can sort my frame out, so I will have a nose around in the hub and see what I can find. Hopefully I can just replace one of the bits you've suggested. Cheers for the tips.
