JonMack
Hey,my new house is massive, and I dont think our wireless adaptor will be good enough to cover the whole house. I've got one of these at the moment, so I was wondering if there was any kind of signal booster I can get to extend the range? So the signal goes from the wireless router, to the booster, then to my computers, or is that something i've made up in my head?Cheers,Jon
Krisboats
That router is powerful enough to transmit over 100metres with a decent signal. My uncle has one and he has it in the front room. His laptop can still connect with a strong signal at the end of his 150 something yard long garden. If you have the bog-standard wireless receivers, its like a normal non rangemax'd network, with the rangemax usb receiver its ridiculously far. Unless your living in a mansion with 20 odd bedrooms it'll be fine.
JonMack
Hmmm the signal always seemed shit on my MacBook Pro even in my smaller house...I guess we'll just have to find a central location for it, and then just hope for the best, if not I'll just ethernet my iMac in and share the wireless from that like I did before. Danny
Make sure the router is away from any big metal objects too. I had a pc sat in a corner next to a load of radiator pipes once and the wireless signal was awfull. Moved it 6 inch to the right and it was 100%. Other option is to get an access point.

Luke Rainbird
Also remember, the signal will travel better through floors than walls (or so I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong)So if there's the option to go through a wall or a floor, take the floor
JonMack
My room is ground floor, but I don't know where NTL will bring the cable through, so it could end up being on the ground floor or it could end up being on the first :/
Nick Garland
My friend has a similar problem with his Belkin router, its wireless N and has good range but literally 20m down the hall on the same floor his signal is pants, go to the bottom of the stairs below the router and its fine.If you have really thick walls in the house it can affect the signal or if there is a lot of internal wiring/piping. Dai the Socket
http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/"Enjoy your iTunes music library in virtually any room of your house — or several rooms at once. Share a single broadband Internet connection and USB printer without inconvenient and obtrusive cables. Create an instant wireless network on the go. Extend the range of your current wireless network. How many devices do you need to do all this? Just one.""Extend Your NetworkIf you already have a wireless network in your home and would like to extend its range, AirPort Express is your answer. Suppose you want to connect to the Internet with your MacBook Pro in an area that lies beyond the 150-foot range of your AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station. You can use AirPort Express as a wireless bridge to extend the range of your primary base station.(5)"You know you want to Jon

JonMack
Hm fair enough, well we've yet to setup the internet yet cos my housemates are being fannies and we havnt actually got it transfered to our new house yet, so I dont know what's going on really when it comes to signal strength yet.
