well i have had the ko comming up to a year now not quite but almost anyway i was fixing a puncher with my friend the otherday and had it upside down and my friend pointed out its acctully bent the down tube acctully curves to the right looking down on it. I spoke to mr Ko and he said its not coverd by warenty as the bikes still ride able theres nothing wrong with it. Im not sure as to if it will make a diffence and be fine as it normally would or if its likely to cave on me at any point im not sure it seems to be geting slighty worse but must i have done somthing unordanry to do this to a frame or should it not be doing this? happend to anyone else?

heres a few pic's

dont touch the middle this side but touches the edges

24082007007xh8.jpg

touches middle but not the side on the same place on the frame just the other side

24082007009ww9.jpg

and a birds eye veiw

24082007010ft2.jpg

it's got a little worse scince the pictures have been taken and you can see it more clearly in real life but thats as best as i could do

any advise, comments, fatty remarks???

cheers Jack (Y)

Not covered by warranty because its still rideable? Hell, a cracked frame is still rideable, doesn't mean its not safe and most companies will take it seriously enough. If its gotten worse since the pictures like you said then its clearly not still rideable, it'll only bend so much before affecting the feel of the bike (if it doesn't already) or cracking along the stretched section of tubing.

I think its a bit of a joke that the company is trying to pass it off as still being fine. The frame is BENT, its most certainly isn't fine.

Personally i'd be ringing up and asking them to sort it out and not take such a crappy attitude towards it.

Thats complete and utter bullshit. I'd have serious words with Mr Ko or sue the company.

It MIGHT just be a manufacturing fault....Which is covered by warranty.

Not covered by warranty because its still rideable?

That's quite a common requirement.

On a recent 8 day outing into the mountains, two of my friends cracked the steerers of their Hi-Fi forks. The distributor said they would be replaced, but they need to be broken. So these guys had to risk their health riding around with a cracked steerer hoping the whole fork would just break away. Eventually both forks broke and nobody got hurt in the process.

From the last picture it looks like the top tube aswell is bent ie the whole front end, i would say that has to be a manafactureing fault, i find it hard to believe someone could do that. The front end must have been slightly bent from manafatureing for you to make it that bad. I would be wanting a new frame not half price replacement.

if im honnest id rather a new frame as i dont have the money to spend on a new frame and the company will still be making its money from the second frame im buying even if it is half price i was talking to gazza the owner of triton he was saying how titnium is very expensive and he gets around 20% profit each frame some times not even that how ever ally is very cheap so he could make 200 to 300% profit even if i was to have my frame replaced he would still be in profit and he would keep reputation as being a good company thats his veiw anyway,

idear of this topic was not to have a dig at mr ko or to slag off the frame its self as it is well thought out and did ride really nice previously but it was purely because i wasent sure if this was my fult or if i should be expecting it to be replaced i have been offerd a half price cash replacement but i cant take that up due to lack of money so im a little stuck some seem to think it should be replaced with a new one or is it somthing i have done wrong. Alot of riders on here will tell you im not great at best i tap and side hop bar height witch i didnt think was enough to do serious dammage im not the harshest of riders so dose this mean it was a manufacure fult or am i just litterly being fat?

cheers for the comments Jack

Like i have explained dude. It's a manufacturing fault. Most other company's i know of would replace you that for free. It's a little something called warranty.

You should by rights get a free replacement. These kind of things are health hazards in the Trials worlds. Jesus, I can't believe Mr Ko can even consider only offering a half price replacement.

Well. All im going to say is. I was considering a Ko as my next frame. But now...Knowing how warrenty stands on these frame's...No thanks.

Also. This must be a manufacturing fault...Cls is riding one and he's giving it some shit and it's fine...

Danny.

I would say it must have to have been a fault for it to bend like that, ive never heard of anything like this before. I think you should be saying you want a new frame to trialsuk as i cant think that would happen to a frame if the tubes where perfectly striaght when you got it.

I don't wana put anyone off them as thats not my aim but it is down to your personal choice they are nice frames just didnt think this was right but yes that was exacly my thoughts both dan ko and cls are amazing riders and i have nothing on them yet both of the frames are fine yet im pretty poor at riding so surely it shouldnt have bent???

cheers for comments

half price replacement, its what onza would do, not that bad for an 11 month old frame.

bollocks is it not bad, speak to trading standards and the HSE and see where you stand legally. they might have to give you a refund less a small amount for the use you've had although its still within its 12 month manufacturers warrenty that all products sold in the UK must have by law and therefor its a new free frame for you i'd say.

put some legal pressure on ko bikes, half price is shit, all it means is that they don't make any profit off the second frame but the manufacturer still gets their cut. that looks like manufacturing fault in which case they obliged to repair or replace

Shut up. If you drove your car into a wall would you expect it to be replaced because it bent? No. From the looks of that downtube its been well used.

 Cars are meant for driving on the road and not for crashing into walls, trials frames are meant for riding trials. That looks like what he's been doing so I'm not sure what the situation on warranty would be. A half price crash replacement is a fair deal really.

Manufacturing default.

How is that a manufacturing default? Something like an unfinished weld cracking, is a manufacturing default.

Bending a downtube, on a frame that to be fair, looks well used is riding damage. Personally I can see why Dan;s only offering half price replacement. Its hardly his fault the tubes bent.

EDIT:

Is'nt the warrenty on most frame 6 months direct replacement, and 2 1 an a half years half price replacement? Or am I thinking of something else?

Exactly what i was thinking , a half price replacement is very fair , if the downtube was immaculate , no dents then i could see where your coming from.

I would take the half price replacement (Y) end of the day its nearly a year old , my mates koxx snapped and koxx uk didnt do a thing (N) after sending it to them

sending it back taking over 1 month.
