ogre
righty then i've got 5-600 to spend on laptop fer 6thform etc i don't know much about computers so half the stuff in descriptions doesn't really help me, so if anyone can tell me what i want to look for in a laptop/pc that'd be awesome or if you can recomend any i'd prefer a laptop over a pc, unless it's a silly good one for it's price.thanksedit: i also want to get internet setup on it (again no f**king clue) what do i need to set it up for cordless, i'm being bought the internet stuff for my results so, recommend me good stuff Edited August 28, 2007 by ogre
Greetings
Personally, I'd make sure it has a C2D processor, WiFi, IR, LAN and Firewire ports. I don't know about how much ram you can get for that price, but 2gb is a safe minimum if you want to run big apps on it. If you also play games, a graphics card which doesn't use shared memory would be good.edit: that's for a laptop of course... by a pc do you just mean the computer or the whole kit including a monitor, keyboard and mouse? Heatsink
I'd just go and shop around your supermarkets for the laptops they've got on special offer, these entry level laptops for £350-£400 have inexcess of the spec most people need. There seems to be an explosion of choice at the moment. Compare the specs with the PC World entry level models and then buy which ever Supermarket laptop looks best. Here's a vastly simplified spec:Wireless readyDVD/CD rewriterWindows Vista (the swisher Premium version comes with 1GB laptops)Nice and large screenFor memory/hard drive/screen size/general looks, get the best of the bunch in your opinion from the supermarket offerings.Steve
poopipe
i recommend ...Asus F series with an intel cpu. quiet, fast, decent battery life etc. mine runs Max and Maya happily for hours, doesn't overheat, doesn't weigh too much, gives me 1280x800 pixels on a 15" screen - it was under 600 including vat. I've had mine a few months and nowt's gone wrong with it. laptopsdirect seem to have decent prices - i got a bag and mouse thrown in with mine. you'll get a better machine than this for the same money now - just don't touch the AMD versions
Krisboats
whole kitthe £549 spec any good? anyone know if i'd need anything else for the internetz on it?In a word.... no.Go to tesco seriously, they have some pretty good laptops and the gateway range is great. For £500 or thereabouts my mum picked up a dual core'd gig of ram 120gb hard drive'd vista premium'd beast with a fairly decent graphics card (Plays bioshock full screen res, max settings at about 30fps)For £500-600 you could get much betetr than that dell one. Hendrix
I should have frigging waited, and saved up for a new Laptop.... mine is rubbish, slow... etc etc. 512MB's Ram, and it cost £150.And bloody Dells are expensive to upgrade to 1gig of ram ANYWAY. Yeah :PC World actually have some not bad offers on at the moment on laptops on the 400 - 600 mark.
