modman
Hey guys and girls,Just been thinking at work while i was fitting some new disks to a bike and thought, I wonder if that shimano deore hydro disk work well with a hope mono trial hub? I'm guessing it would as the shimano deore brake system works well anyway but he added biteyness of the mono trial rotor, i rekon that'd be a good cheap and possibly better alternative to hope's own mono trial brake.I know it wouldn't have the same savage hold as the mono trial but you would probably gain abit more modulation which is a plus for both natural riding and street.your thoughts please? cheers,Jake Edited August 25, 2007 by modman
Greetings
Well i was going to reply to this yesterday but i'm not sure.Isn't the Deore M525 pad compound like completely different to the one used in more expensive brakes? I thought they used a softer compound which is why rotors supplied with M525 brakes have very few small holes.
modman
Hmmmm good point Inur, i might have to check that out, but then if that is the case and the end up becoming rinsed in like a few sessions then maybe a change to sintered pads could work?I'm tempted to buy one as they're only £40 on Chainreactioncycles.co.uk but it's wether i have £40 to waste if it doesn't work so well.Another good advantage to the Deore brake system is that its like HALF the WEIGHT of the mono trial which would make it appealing, only thing it lacks is the PIMP factor. Lawnmowerman
The deore brakes weight a fookin tonne and the rotors that come with them are center lock only.

And 270g (or something like that) isn't exactly a heavy brake. In fact, it's bloody light if you equip it with a Hope rotor that weighs nothing. As for the pads, they're resin. So yeah, they're completely different to Hope pads. How they would work with a Trials rotor I have no idea but definitely give it a try. It's not like you'll wear the pads out in a matter of days. Lawnmowerman
I've got 2 of them sat next to me and they weigh loads hmmmm
Greetings
I've got 2 of them sat next to me and they weigh loads hmmmmClickAccording to them the front brake system is 220g. Sounds a bit too light to me though. With a Hope rotor that adds up to 320g for a full brake and I thought the lightest disc brakes in the world were like 300g? modman
Hmmmm i might sneakily order in deore disk from work and then weigh them up.I rekon they would be a great alternative for people that can't afford the full hog of a mono trial, they certainly brake well.
