Ema, Am I Entitled To It?

I live with both my parents, my dad works full time and my mum works 2 days a week, am i entitled to Education Maintenance Allowance? <_<

If you parents total wage comes to under 30k is mark I think (Don't quote me on this you will have to check it) then yes you get a tenner a week. If under 20k (again check it) a year 20 a month and there is one for 30 quid a month. You will have to check the values though as I can't remember exactly. I know the 30k one isn't far off..

Ask at you're school or collage. They'll have a form and then fill it out, you'll need like tax/wage type things from you're folks to prove their income and then you sign a learning agreement then its all sorted. I'm getting £30 a week. Only good thing about being poor at home lol.

Thanks will do.

The thing that pisses me off is that my mum and dads joint income is ok but they dont give me a bean. :(

I got bulled out of that last year, my dad told them I had a part time job, and then they didnt bother filling it in. It was only afterwards I realised it only depends on your parents income, has nothing to do with you working or not!

I will be able to cheat slightly soon.

My Mum is leaving, and she earns less than £30k a year. My Dad will be earning more due to huge amounts of overtime to pay off the mortgage.

I will be living at both houses all the time, but, if I register at my Mum's I will be entitled to it, even though I think I will be staying at my Dad's more of the time, because all my school/college/bike stuff is here.

I might change and stay at my Mum's more, but I'm still entitled to it aren't I?

dad works in wales and has a house in his name there mum has the house that I live in registered in her name and she only works a really shit payed job to keep her busy through the day when we're out. so i can claim the full £30 even though my parents are both together and my dads wage comes to us aswell

both my parents work (dad full time and mum 2 days a week( both together earning more than £30k)) and we are not exactly comfitable with the money (morgage bills loans etc) but i dont get any. I work at weekends and use to get about £25 pounds for a saturday gone. my friend owns like 4 houses and parents are very comfitable and he gets £30 and does f**k all! b*****d.

Gavyn, you can claim however much your mums earnings entitle you to.

It the total of the home owners earnings.

yeah well like i say i've already applied and ran through it all with my college tutors because my mums recently cut her hours she doesn't even hit the 20k mark anymore so i can claim the full 30 every week :) even though my dad is the top project engineer on one of the biggest gas pipelines coming into the uk and has agreed to pay for me through out any education i want to do until I have a degree.

Seriously, why bother for £10 a week.

As someone has said cause you can. Also I am guessing you are older and at 16 I Imagen I value 10 quid alot higher than what you would. I have to work 2.3 hours to earn 10 quid ( I get 4.33 a hour at Halfords) so I am not going to miss out on getting it for free...It is well worth the effort of filling out a couple of forms.

I was wondering do you have to be in College to earn Ema?

Because it says you can apply for it at 16, which I am in October and I still have about 9 months at High school.

Or is it just College?

Well my school has changed their title since getting a specialist subject status in Humanities, so now it is no longer called a high school, but a college.

On the advert for EMA it says you get if you carry on with your education after secondary school so i don 't think so.
