How Do I Make My Internet Connection Secure..

Can happen on any os, any computer etc, just less chance if you have good security on your network and computer itself. As far as I am aware they do not really bother with low lives like us, they will find a low level entry into a company such as tartybikes for example, place themselves as a portal between you and tartybikes, so any info you send to tarty they recieve too etc. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO TARTYBIKES TO MAKE THAT CLEAR. Was an example as a lot of people use that site.

This is generally stopped by digital certificates which is where the 2 computers basically say "hey was this sent from you, if so prove it" sorta thing. Its not easy to hack to be fair which is why the normally dont bother with people like us as I said and generally go for businesses instead where they will actually get some info they want.

Yes Charlie, your computer is completely invulnerable to viruses (or in fact anything bad).

I don't think keyloggers are a problem with unsecured wireless networks. You can get a keylogger in computer viruses (Trojans etc) but someone on your network shouldn't be able to run code on your computer. Whether or not Windows (or OS X) is completely secure from attack from other people on your network, I'm not sure.

But again, you're spectacularly missing the point. If you don't have WEP then your credit card details (and paypal login, internet banking passwords etc) can be easily stolen. You might as well just shout them out across a crowded room.

^^ He's right

keyloggers are a problem regardless of how secure your network is cos they've got cock all to do with network security. fortunately, unless you're a spacker who gets trojans and doesn't have a firewall you're unlikely to suffer from one.

just to be absolutely clear.

run WEP or you're f**ked.

Just to clear the whole only using MAC filtering thing up. If you have a share folder, someone can mimmick a mac address to gain access to the network, and while they might not be able to alter existing files in the share folders... they can add them. So its easy enough to add a backdoor trojan onto your computer and then they can literally do whatever the hell they want.... even view you through your own webcam as they spin the mouse round in circles in front of you. This also enables them to put a keylogger onto your computer and run it meaning they can see everything you type.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that? If you have a read-only share then you can't create things in there at all. And if you have a full permissions for a share, you can delete whatever you feel like?

On my music shared folder my siters and mums laptops can see and use all my music but not re-name them... but they can add music to it.

All it needs is the windows shared files folder anyway and thats it, on goes you backdoor.

There's an option that stops people from altering the files in any way. But can add and copy stuff.

Oh right, didn't know that. I don't use the 'my shared documents' thing, just share any old folder - much easier.

Yeah thats the same as me, files can still be added though. In the my music folder i have a folder called mp3's... this is shared on the network via right click>properties>sharing and the "allow other users to modify files" thing is unchecked. This way they can't delete or alter the files, but they can put new ones onto it. My mum has put several pictures of handbags and things into that folder which had me baffled for a week or so as to how handbag photo's were turning up in my music folder. Turns out her auto save destination was my mp3 folder :S and she was just using that

Pretty interesting read actually. I don't have f**k all security on my network which I've been a bit worried about, especially as it took 2 minutes to get the default username and password for my wireless gateway, to log in and f**k about with any settings!

I'm gonna go for Advanced Encryption Standard I think, as that's what they say is best. Meh.

Edit:

What am I meant to put in here, Anything long and random?
